Hallo dear Tonymacx86,
it's a while I am not creating new builds, but this time I have a slightly different project.

I got a cMP 4,1 dual CPU, now firmware flashed to 5,1 and I want to boot Big Sure (or even Catalina as the minimum result)
in order to use the updated Final Cut Pro with some acceleration.
The GPU installed is a RX 570 but I have ready a Nvidia GT 120 if needed.

I tried with OC following the instruction from many YT channel, or using the dortania OC Legacy patcher,
BUT I only get an "accelerated" Mojave :|. Trying to but Big Sur results in a stuck loading bar.

So I am wondering if it's possible, with Unibeast / Multibeast / clover to install Big Sur from Mojave and then
getting a working Mac Pro.

I know there's the infamous OC but I had a bad start with it, and also I am curious to know if I can get the result with the more familiar tools from Tonymac

thanks!

Don't use Clover at all, it will likely brick your classic Mac Pro.

For bricking, you mean it won't work (as OC until now)?

The EFI will remain on a SSD that I can remove, or do you meant I could modify something deeply in the firmware of the Mac Pro? I have all the necessary Mojave backup HDD, I am ready to experiment!

In theory, once I create let's say a Catalina USB-key (unibeast key) capable to inject the same kext I see in the average OC folder online (there's this new trend of the OC ready configuration on YT where everyone give you his version) I could get the same result...

Big Sur is a more difficult leap

Don't experiment. It can damage the firmware of the MP and it's costly to fix.

Oof I read carefully it
Clear, it seem that the injection breaks something.

@trs96
Those guys installed clover on the ssd, instead of use unibeast. That's probably the issue.
I had my macbook pro "contaminated" with a Clover boot screen that - sometimes - appears, even if I deleted the Folder.

So I suppose OC was developed with Mac in mind, or it's developed in a slightly different way...

I think I will try a update to Catalina with the Catalina Dosdude patch, and then the step to Big Sur using Patched Sur, and installer that need a working Catalina.

Did a little test. I created the USB with unibeast just to reach the choice screen, and then installed.
After a cold boot (power off, cord off, power on) Catalina is correctly booting, but I see the OC picker screen so I think there's some instance inside EFIs.

The EFI folder is... empty !

unibeast doesn't use opencore....
