Hi I want to also use Kodi (XBMC) with my hack so I got the Rosewill RRC-126 MCE Infrared Remote and was wondering if this will work with my hack?

It might, though the standard Apple remote (the aluminum version) is better supported in Mac OS X. If you can return the Rosewill remote and get an Apple remote you'd be better off. Of course you'll need an IR receiver for it as well. You can get one for $15 (along with the needed Mira software & drivers) at https://twistedmelon.com/mira/hardware.html. An alternative to Mira is Remote Buddy at https://www.iospirit.com/products/remotebuddy/.

Another option, perhaps cheaper and easier (though it does require a little bit of soldering to attach the receiver to a USB cable), is to integrate an IR board from a MacBook yourself. Instructions with pictures are available at http://photos.pottebaum.com/2009/IR/ and https://www.flickr.com/photos/markusf/387287311/. You can get this part for $2.95 from https://www.powerbookmedic.com/MacBook-Pro-Infrared-board-p-18041.html (and I'm sure you probably have a donor USB cable lying around for free).
