Reslution problem

I have purchase an AOC 1080p 24 inch monitor but I am only able to use 1680 x 1050 resolution. I have the choice of going to 1920 x 1080 but that shifts my desktop over. It is moved over three inches with part of the right hiding and a black bar on the left. I'm in the midst of my installation and I want to know if it is my monitors fault or part of the process and will be fixed once I am stable in Lion.

This a typical "getting everything to work" problem. My video was weird until the end of my installation. I had the problem of few useful display modes that my monitor could use. Once I upgraded to 10.6.8 things got much better. Apple supported my video card at this point.

Each graphics card/monitor pair is going to behave differently. Be patient and keep trying things.
