I'm not looking for replace my 2500k based on performance. I just wonder if I can install MacOS on 2500k or if I should upgrade to 6600k. On my PC, the 2500k still works great, reading the buyer's guide it seems like the Skylake processors are highly preferred.

Also, will the 2500k fit in this mobo:
Gigabyte GA-Z170M-D3H

Thank you for your help!

The Buyer's Guide only contains new hardware, your Sandy Bridge processor is still supported in OS X! To tell if your system will work fine in OS X, we'd have to know your additional specs as well (especially mainboard and GPU).

And no, your Sandy Bridge CPU won't fit into a 100-series mainboard. Intel changes the socket approx. every 2nd CPU generation, so this isn't possible.

Ah OK, thank you.

My current MOBO:
Asrock Z68 Pro3 Gen3
GPU:
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming 4GB
RAM:
G.Skill 8GB DDR3-1600 (2x4GB)

Would this work?

Thank you.

The GTX 970 will work on Yosemite or newer version of macOS with the additional nvidia drivers that are linked to in the guides. You can find the precise version required on the following thread:

The ASRock Z68 Pro3 Gen3 was often used in earlier builds of OS X by a number of users on the forum. Have a look through some of the following threads to get some further information. Try searches with 'Sierra' or similar included in the search criteria to see if you can find updated guides or installation tips that are pertinent to your motherboard/CPU combination:

Many of these Z68 boards required a patched BIOS - this is now something that can be done within clover, again do some searching and if you need further pointers then ask in the relevant forum for assistance:

Good luck

Thank you! I'll do some more reading
