Hello,

I successfully have Snow Leopard 10.6.2 installed on my MSI p55-GD65 motherboard using Tony's Chameleon CD/Retail SL disc method. I have everything working except for the audio. I have tried numerous guides and am completely at a loss.

Here are my specs:

Motherboard: MSI P55-GD65
Processor: Intel Core i7-860
RAM: 8GB Corsair DDR3 1600mHz
Video Card: Evga GTX 275 896MB.

I have tried everything I can think of and am stuck, any ideas?

Not sure if it's the same as the 889A on my Gigabyte board, but I had to install the AppleHDA.kext, LegacyHDA.kext and HDAenabler.kext, that solved the problem for me.
The instructions here aren't exactly clear, but the files you need are here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index. ... pic=140941 plus the AppleHDA.kext on the boot disc.
I missed out on the AppleHDA.kext and couldn't figure out what I'd done wrong

Thanks,

I downloaded the files from the guide you posted but I don't know what AppleHDA.kext do i grab from which boot disc? the Chameleon or SL Retail?

I don't know if this relates to your board but for me when I installed the audio kexts, I had an audio cable plugged in, and it didn't work. Once I removed it, it worked fine. Do you have a cable plugged in? If so try taking it out, try the steps again, then plug it back in when audio is recognized.

Hey,

Thanks for all of the help. I tried your advice and re-installed the kexts without my audio cable plugged in and it still didn't work :(

However my roommate had a spare M-Audio Micro (A USB sound adapter) and I simply plugged it in and installed the driver from their website (http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=sup ... S=x94#tabs for the 64-bit version) and now I have working sound! I recommend this solution if you keep having audio issues because the adapter costs like 4 dollars and if you were having headaches like me this makes it soooo easy.

Thanks for all your help everyone (especially Tony for your assistance) and because I have an amazing OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.2 with Windows 7 dualboot!

Thanks everyone,

- JoshT

Shouldn't be a problem getting the onboard sound working, the AppleHDA.kext is located in System – Library – Extensions on the tonymacx86-snowleopard disc. The problem is that there are a few different kexts for the 889, so you need to find the right one. You should try this one http://www.mediafire.com/?z01fznwnumn as it's specifically for the 889 and not 889A.
