Hi all,

My config:
Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK
i7 4790K 4GHz
Zotac GTX960-2GB GDDR5, DVI, HDMI, 3x Display Port
4 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance LP Series Black DDR3-1600 CL9
Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SATA SSD
PSU: Corsair RM650 650W
OS X 10.10.4
DELL 2713 Monitor

After reading and doing the installation according installation guide, I had problems with installation. I found out, that the graphic card made the problem and disabled the drive in the console during startup. It helped and I was able to install OSX 10.10.4. - Further I figured out that I have to run for my GTX 960 the NVIDIA alternative driver and so i installed it and it began to run smoothly and I was to able to install my software. I had some problems with my screen resolution on my DELL2713 because the FHD settings were not able to choose and I had a bad view. With installing Switch Resx I fixed this and were able to change to standar FHD and my screen was looking good.

Since some weeks, there was and auto driver update from NVIDIA suggested and I installed the latest one for 10.10.4. - after that, I was not using the HT that much. meanwhile I´m having now an EIZO Flexscan Monitor S2431W attached on the DVI port.

Then I encountered random freezes, so started following up on all the tips I could get from this forum.
But I wasn't successful. I got then some dumps during start up, 2 different dumps after each restart. The 3rd restart worked fine and I was able to have the system up for several minutes, until it freezes again. (dump files are attached) after changing BIOS settings (see below) the dumps are gone, but system is still freezing.

One remark, I tried to install a driver for my Asus Wireless USB Adapter, but I only find drivers for 10.8.4. and installed them. But I uninstalled it with the uninstaller and should be removed.

what I further did:

  • tried to find similar problems in the forum made changes in BIOS
SATA-AHCI-Mode : Enabled

XHCI-Mode : Auto

XHCI-Hand Off : Enabled

EHCI-Hand Off : Enabled

Wake On Lan : Disabled

  • during setting up, i was using Logitech USB BT dongle and used a BT Keyboard mouse (all in one solution)
  • now I´ve standard mouse and keyboard attached via USB

I keep getting those random freezes...
All help would be very very welcome!!! Because I really can´t find a hint, where the problem is coming from...

Thank you,
hupo

Does anyone have a solution for this problem? :|

Freezes may be down to RAM
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4979#memory support list

The OP is using 4 sticks of RAM which on some boards were problematic. Update to the latest UEFI/BIOS version. Try 2 sticks of RAM, even different RAM sticks from the relevent BOARD REVISION memory support list.

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4979#memory support list

A non Haswell PSU can also be a problem but incompatible RAM for the motherboard has been the biggest issue for the last couple of years. Apple always use very expensive but high specification RAM - cheap RAM used on Apple hardware has been an issue in the last couple of years.

Thank you very much for your reply!

After uptdating the BIOS to the latest version I it is working better. I´m testing it with continious ping and this works for several hours. But if I´m starting working, e.g. opening word or other applications it happens that system freeze again.

Perhaps it is the problem with the RAM as mentionend, or could it be another problem too? What I will do as next step, is to remove 2 banks of RAM and make further checks.

I would be really appreciated, if anybody have some ideas, or what kind for RAM you suggest and is working fine...

Thank you guy´s in advance,
hupo

hi again.

so I did some memtests (command line in terminal and memtest86+ bootable stick)

where as the memtest86+ did not show any errors runing for a couple of hours (over night) the command line memtest had some output rather than "ok". question is, is that something serious regarding my freez?

btw, system was up and running for more than 1h. works like nicely but as soon as I open a "larger" tool it's going to freeze. textedit was no issue, firefox as well (this time). I wonder, if there is a tool I can run for logging some information while provoking a freeze?

here is the outcome of this test. would really appreciate if anyone has an idea about the information coming from this tool.

THANK YOU
hupo

too bad there aren't more tips to try out.

however, i have had the system running now for almost 24h without a freeze but it wasn't doing much anyway. I pinged a website and no and then opend firefox.

so it has had an improve through the BIOS update. no freeze of a not busy system. maybe there are still some settings in the BIOS regarding RAM I could try out?

i ordered new RAM and will see if that brings the change finally. due to the current situation, can I be sure it's down to RAM?

thanks for your help.

best regards

I just don't get it anymore!

the system is running now more than 2 days without a freeze. as said, nothing else done than bit firefox and a constant ping in the background.

today the new RAM arrived and before I switch it I wanted to provoke a freeze as it should be easy to do.

well it wasn't easy. in fact I could not get the system to freeze at all. I haven not done anything at all....

so I started the memtest one more time... and guess what? passed, every single test

since almost 24h new RAM (ballistix) and no freeze till now. It looks like solved for now.
