So could someone explain the benefits to having a RAID? I'm still not sure what it exactly does other than having your hard drives connected? Or something of that nature. If I plan on running Windows 7 and SL should I get one?

Thanks in advance because I'm really just trying to figure out all the details before I build this thing, but should be in the next month that I purchase :D

No.

If you need more than 2TB of storage in one volume or you need the extra speed of "RAID" 0 - then you should look into it.

I'm still confused after reading that article. It just doesn't seem to be efficient. With the SATA and eSATA internal/external drives I don't see that much of a change with a RAID 1 or 5.

I'll definitely have 3+ TB of HD space going because I'll be editing and need it for scratch disk space, but I won't be running them all simultaneously so I guess I shouldn't get a RAID?

Would this statement be correct?

I can't state whether RAID is right for you or not but the following are additional links to articles and Youtube videos that should help explain it and give you better idea of the benefits.

Thanks Saint those videos helped alot. I may get a RAID 5 from what I've read and watched now. Although it's not entirely necessary for me unless I'm working on a very large project.

Thanks a bunch guys I think I'm set to build this Hackintosh.

Hopefully I should be getting it this month.
