Radeon Compatibility Guide - ATI/AMD Graphics Cards

I don't see the brand of RX580 you are using, listed. Maybe it has an unusual VBIOS.

My graphics card is a Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ ... part number is in the computer that has no display.

The latest versions of Lilu and WhateverGreen are also installed in the computer I am running now... it is on High Sierra 10.13.6 (build 17G11023) and works fine with its nVidia 1050 Ti graphics card. As I wrote above, the problem computer worked fine with the new kexts for a day, then just stopped outputting video past the newly-purple lines. So if it is not Lilu or WhateverGreen, maybe it's how I installed them. Each kext is in EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other and also in /Library/Extensions (installed there using Kextbeast). If I could remove them from either location, I would do so.

The fact that you are seeing purple lines leads me to believe that WhateverGreen isn't loaded.

Please post your EFI folder.

Found the solution by patching the Framebuffer

Today I tried using 2 (DVI works/HDMI stays black) Monitors with my Asus Expedition RX 570 8GB. I followed the exact steps but cannot get the right frame buffer to work. Right now I use Orinoco. Any help is very much appreciated. Below I posted the output from my vbios and AMD fb.

1. Download and unZip one of the EFIs.
2. Plug in a USB flash drive.
3. Mount the EFI partition of the USB flash drive.
4. Copy the EFI folder to the EFI partition of the USB flash drive.

This is different from what I have read on tonymac. My understanding is that "Detect" is preferred because Clover will then first look at /Library/Extensions for a required kext, and if found will use it. If not found, Clover will then use the file in "EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other" instead. Supposedly, Inject kexts "Yes" means always inject from the EFI folder. Also I have read that "/Library/Extensions" is the preferred location for third-party kexts. The only problem comes when a new OS is installed that will not have that third-party kext in its library, so its function is not available unless it is in the EFI folder. I'm just repeating here what I've read on this website.

Everyone has a different OPINION of where hackintosh kexts should be placed. There's no rule written anywhere as to where they are supposed to go.

Preferred by whom? I prefer them in /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/.

Judging from my poll, most people prefer /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/. In fact, /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/ is preferred by more than 2:1 over /Library/Extensions/.

This is not a debate on where kexts should be placed. It's just a poll to see where users are installing their kexts.

At the end of the day, it's up to you where you put your kexts. Just know that there's no rule to it.

My opinions:

• I've been using /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/ only for several years with zero ill effects.
• Keeping kexts in /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/ allows you to enable SIP for a more secure system. SIP MUST be disabled if you use /Library/Extensions/.
• Of all the people I've managed to help, not one time has the solution to a problem been to move kexts to /Library/Extensions/.
• Installing, updating, and maintaining kexts in /Library/Extensions/ is much more of PITA.
• Trying to help people who have kexts in /Library/Extensions/ is more of a PITA.
• Kexts as we currently know it will be depreciated in the next major release of macOS and /Library/Extensions/ won't even be an option anymore.
• Kexts from acidanthera were originally intended to be injected via bootloader. Support for /Library/Extenaions/ was an afterthought.
