Quick Fix for Intel HD 4600 Graphics Acceleration on 9 Series Motherboards

Tested the new Multibeast 6.5 and boots great! Originally Ethernet did not work, but had to change to Killer (typo in the screenshot). Other than that, the settings remain the same and works great!

Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB

Loaded optimized default settings and disabled VT-D in the BIOS.

Was able to successfully upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite but having issues with the HD 4600. Am I able to use the 10.9 kext or should I wait for an update?

I have a Gigabyte Z97X-SOC motherboard with an i7-4770K. I have never been able to get acceleration with the built in HD4600 graphics with Mavericks (using Multibeast 6.5).

Even loading Yosemite (using MultiBeast 7) didn't fix that problem... in fact it is even worse. I guess Yosemite has a greater dependence on acceleration, so it flickers and performs poorly; so poorly, I've gone back to Mavericks.

What settings can I check?

The following is a view of my system's Graphics/Displays settings:

hey guys, i just got i7-4790k and gigabyte z97-hd3 for my latest build.

i managed to install 10.10, booted with -x to install the latest multibeast.

Here are my issues:

1. Unrecognized CPU. While booting with -v, one of the lines read something like unknown CPU. (I have updated to the latest F5 BIOS for this motherboard)

2. HD4600 issue. The screen flickers and the boot is very laggy. After i input my login password, it slowly gets into the OS. Somewhere on this website i read that Yosemite supports HD4600 natively. However, this is what i got for graphics/displays in the system report: VRAM (Total): 7MB, VRAM(Dynamic, Max): 10, Kernel Ext Info: No Kext Loaded.

3. No audio device recognized.

the boot process is very slow, and sometimes it gets stuck and wouldn't proceed to login screen. other times, it boots fine despite the lag.

anyone got any ideas, or knows any links on this website i can look at for possible solutions?

Update: Installed 10.9.5 on another drive. Installed 9 series support for both audio and graphics, only the graphics work now.

Advice needed: should i return the z97 board and get the z87 board instead, since z87 has more support?

See Post #153

Yes i read that. But i am telling you that it is not my experience.

I don't get the full acceleration for graphics on Yosemite. VRAM only registers as 7MB and kext was not loaded.

It seems to me that wrlee has similiar problems with graphics as i do.

Does anyone here have z97 series motherboard with fully functional graphics under Yosemite?

On top of that, with the newest Devil's canyon build?

I think you should switch to Clover. It solved lots of the problems I had with Chimera. I can provide you with my Clover setup if you need it.

I have full QE/CI, I only have 2 graphics problems:
  • Tearing problem on my HDMI monitor (I have a dual monitor setup). More info here.
  • Poor graphics acceleration. I can see some lags on some animations (when I expand a folder from the Dock for instance), and when I do graphics benchmarks (more info here). I don't know if it's lack of performance from the HD4600 chip, or if it's a problem in my setup.
Otherwise, everything's working fine.
