I haven’t even been able to get High Sierra installed yet, but I was curious:

Should I look into downloading and installing the latest available bios update for my Asus mobo?

I'd say to try and get the OS running first before messing with BIOS updates unless you really need to do it the other way.

Unless I know there are problems with BIOS updates that I want to avoid (For example those "beta" BIOS intending for testing purposes), I would normally upgrade to the latest BIOS version before doing anything else.
