Hi all,
I have a Probook 4430s with an HD 3000. I get graphical artifacts when viewing and exporting videos (usually pink/green squares or lines). Since we use this laptop for professional video editing, it is a real problem. I have tried both the default video driver and the one from this thread http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...8854-hd3000-full-acceleration-10-8-qe-ci.html.

FakeSMC is running according to SR Tools.

I'm pretty new to this hackintosh thing so I'm not sure what else to try out. Until I figure this out, this laptop is a wasted investment... :banghead: any/all help greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Have you patched your own DSDT yet?

No, I haven't! I don't even know what that means :( Can you help me understand what that is and why it's important? I can probably do it (20 year UNIX veteran, 2 years on OS X) but I do need a push in the right direction and some context.

Easy way is to:
- download ProBook Installer v6.1 (currently beta8)
- remove /Extra/dsdt.aml
- reboot
- run ProBook Installer to install DSDT (see instructions for DSDT patching in philip_petev's post #1)

Or...
- read this topic: http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-probook/83573-patching-your-dsdt-probook-4x30s-using-maciasl.html

We have found that by having a DSDT patched from your own instead of using a 'pre-patched' DSDT such as those in older versions of the ProBook Installer, that the system is more stable and these graphic glitches are very rare.

Don't forget to do an EC reset after installing the patched DSDT: shutdown, remove battery, unplug AC adapter, hold power button 30 sec, put everything back & restart.

I tried both of these methods (via ProBook Installer 6.1b8, and via Maciasl) last night, but the system wouldn't boot with either of the DSDTs generated by each method.

Here's the error I got: cMXDAtV.jpg (mirror: http://i.imgur.com/cMXDAtV.jpg).

Sorry about the glare, I took one without the flash and it was too blurry.

I'm not sure how to proceed from here...

Describe in detail the options you chose in the ProBook Installer v6.1. Screen shot is best.

I don't have the laptop on me at the moment, but the options I chose were:

  • Probook 4x30
  • Original fan patch
  • IGPU/LVDS Single-Link (1366x768 display)
  • and I tried a DSDT with and without the Atheros 9285 patch (both failed to boot) because I wasn't sure if my Atheros AR5B195 (which contains the 9285 chip) needs that or not.

You need the 9285 patch if you want WiFi to work. Other than that, the options you chose look fine.

There must be something else wrong with your install. I would suggest a clean install using the sticky guide and ProBook Installer v6.1.

Also, what BIOS rev?
