So I purchased a DWA-556 after hearing many users suggest it for its OOB functionality as well as it's superior reception. Unfortunately, I cannot get ML to detect the device, not does it show up in system profiler.

Here is a link to the guide I followed:
http://www.osx86.net/view/1634-atheros_ar9285_for_10.6.8.html

Here is what I tried:

1) downloaded and installed Apple80211Monitor.bundle to System/Library/SystemConfiguration and deleted the original with the same name.
2) installed IO80211Family.kext to System/Library/Extensions using kext wizard.
3) repaired disk permissions using disk utility
4) powered down
5) installed hardware
6) restarted

If there are other drivers available specific to this card I will happily try them. The kext provided in the thread I linked to is specific to the Atheros AR9285 but is confirmed working for the DWA-556 in 10.6.8. Unfortunately I can't get it working using this method on 10.8.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as right now I'm running a 50 foot Ethernet cable through the house :)

Did you ever figure this out? I'm about to upgrade to ML because of a video card issue and I hate when one fix breaks other stuff. :(

We don't recommend that card. We recommend this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007GMPZ0A/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=tonymacx86com-20

Also, the card you say works in 10.6.8, it doesn't mean it will work in 10.8.
