Hi. My friend wants me to build a computer for him that's capable of running El Capitan and Pro Tools HD.

I have no doubts about the hardware and OS X, it's a Gigabyte Z170XP-SLI, Core i7 6700K, 8GB Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4, 240GB Kingston SSD and a 1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD.

The thing is, afaik, Pro Tools HD relies on a PCIe card. And I know Hackintoshes can diss on PCIe cards that are not GPUs, like a sound card, etc. As you probably already figured, he works with audio and recording, so he's building this rig for his personal studio. Do any of you have experience with Pro Tools HD and Hackintosh? Is it tricky, or require a couple of extra additional components? He plans on using iGPU and, from what I've searched, Pro Tools HD works better with better graphic performance, too.

I found a couple of old discussions on Pro Tools but, since things have changed and some of the threads dates back to 2012, I wanted to make a new post.

Well to be honest it is a hackintosh so everything is hit and miss, but if you get your properties right with your DSDT and correctly configure your setup you can make everything work.

Well its more down to what you want with the system, with Pro Tools you will need a iLock device which is normal you of all people should know that.

Well Pro Tools works with a Dedicated or PCI-E graphics card so there isn't a issue with compatibility.

Anymore questions, please ask.

Sounds like your'e having an IRQ conflict. 48 voices is what you would get with just the Core card and your signature says you have an Accell card as well. You should be getting 96 voices.

You could try installing the cards one at a time to see if you can get the IRQ's sorted out...
