I had two Samsung 840 series SSD's in my 2012 quad-core 2.3 GHz Mac Mini in a RAID0 config, and got crummy performance. I updated firmware without much improvement, and finally split up the SSDs and discovered that one was so-so in performance, and the other was pretty bad. I dunno what was wrong - both were bought new, and by the time I figured out there was a problem, I figured I was past warrantee.
So I decided to try OCZs that I got a good price on ($160 total for two 240 GB at Newegg over the Black Friday weekend) also in RAID0, under 10.10.1. They do better: )
Now THAT"S what I'm talkin about!
The Samsung's are going on eBay, and even with full disclosure ("there's something wrong with this drive- performance is not what it should be"), I got $75 for the bad one. The better one hasn't sold yet.
