Post your SSD benchmarks using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test

The Plextor is less expensive, but I have seen reviews with failures already. Plextor is new to SSD design as well. It too bad that both use a Marvel Controller which has been historically weak.

The Marvel Controller has been historically weak? Like the Marvel Controllers in all the "weak" Crucial SSDs from the C300 to the MX100 or what are you talking about? I am not so sure about that statement of yours.

Question about my results:

Samsung 840 EVO 250gb

DiskSpeedTest.png

The results after one round of write/read look good, but the write performance decreases with every round/iteration of the test. So after 3-4 rounds, the results look more like this:

I enabled TRIM using multibeast, and "TRIM Support" is Yes in System Information. I have the most up to date firmware (EXT0BB6Q), and the drive is connected to a 6 Gigabit port. Before enabling TRIM, the problem was worse (going down to ~50MB/s by the second or third round), but there's still this decrease here. Is this normal behavior? Thanks!

I think it's abnormal. My read/write speed value is stable.

I updated to 10.9.5, ran Multibeast 6.5 to make sure my storage drivers are up to date, made sure to re-enable TRIM, and I'm still experiencing this phenomenon. I also tried switching SATA cables, SATA 6gb/s ports, and power cables, but it makes no difference. For what it's worth, HWMonitor says the drive is running at 33ºC and has 99% life remaining. Any ideas as to what could be going wrong here? Thanks!

I've also tried running AJA speed test (https://www.aja.com/en/products/aja-system-test) on my 250gb Samsung EVO 840, and the results tell a similar story to the Blackmagic Speed Test. The AJA results show how after a certain point, the write speeds quickly and dramatically alternate between normal write speeds and extremely slow write speeds:

I tried comparing this to a Kingston SSDnow V300 120GB, and the Kingston showed more consistent results, though the actual numbers don't agree with Blackmagic (though write speeds are stable throughout both tests)...

Any ideas what could be wrong with my Samsung EVO? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The new SSD have no moving parts would wear and tear be a factor? Or do you mean like heat and general usage as in nothing lasts forever.

While I'm at it I may as well submit my results.
