Hi !

... as the title says, I´m searching for a alternative to "Play Sound" for macOS Catalina
have used this before to play a Startupsound at macOS startup.

I don´t want to use Apple´s Music.app for this, I would prefer a minimised program or play routine in background.

any suggestions ?

I may be missing your problem, so forgive me, but if you want the startup sound with minimum intervention then check out this thread. Assuming use of Clover.

ah sorry I think I was too unprecise ...

I know and use already the original apple chime at clover-boot-menue.
I usually play a second / other sound when the OS arrived

so i am searching for a minimal non-gui sound player ..

... solved ! no need for "PlaySound"

macOS´s Automator & shell command "afplay" did it.

If someone needs this simply solution open my "tiny.micro" script in automator.
Insert the correct path to your soundflile. (afplay /Users/YOUR_USERNAME/Music/soundfile.wav)
Convert the script into program
and save it as "Program".

After this add it to your StartupObjects.

At the next login macOS will play the soundfile in background without opening
any freaking iTunes or QuickTimePlayer.
