Using the Photos app on my Hackintosh I see the warning "unsupported file format / the full-resolution file is unsupported" on every photos. When I display the photo inspector most information is missing.

But I can export the original image (HEIC file extension) and it opens fine in the Preview app!

My SMBIOS is defined as MacMini 8,1 and I'm using the i5 8400 iGPU. Graphics acceleration is activated. Mojave 10.14.2 Any hints on where is error is coming from? Hardware, app or iCloud related?

Also tried to reimport the original HEIC file and Photos gave the error "unsupported file type"

@drvolks, please update your profile (account details) with your Motherboard, CPU and iGPU or Graphics Card(s).
If you have a prebuilt computer enter make and model instead of motherboard.

I'm wondering if the problem is actually the originator of the HEIC format file, because a quick check with Apple states that HEIF and HEVC formats are fully supported by High Sierra and iOS11 onwards, no mention of HEIC as far as I could find.

If an iPhone is taking the photos the Settings in iOS lets you choose either HEIF/HEVC or JPEG. Similarly the Photos app on iOS has a setting for Transfer to Mac of Automatic or Keep Originals file choice.

As I said a search of Apple brings up little HEIC info at all. But I might be looking in the wrong place!

Photos were taken on a iPhone. The Photos app is working fine with my MacBook Pro. This issue has something to do with the Hackintosh setup.

The "More info" button open Safari here: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT207022

If you're using iCloud Photo Library with iOS 10 or macOS Sierra, you might see
macos-photos-warning-icon.png
in the upper-right corner of the photo or video, or you might see an alert message. To fully view, edit, or duplicate HEIF and HEVC media on your device, upgrade to iOS 11 or later or macOS High Sierra or later.

I'm running Mojave...

It's working again after a fresh install. Go figure!

From the logs I saw in the Console it looks like it was related to failed calls to the iCloud API, probably because of an invalid credential or key. A logout/login from iCloud did not resolve the issue.
