I recently reinstalled 10.10.2 on my dual boot computer and I'm wondering if I have an issue with my setup or if poorer graphics performance on OS X is just inherent of drivers, os, etc.
I have a GTX 970 that I'm overclocking to 1,468 MHz core and 7,830 MHz memory, a i5-4690K @ 4.9 GHz, and I'm running my ram at 2,400 MHz. I tested some cross platform benchmarks on my machine with exact same hardware and tuning. These are with most recent drivers for both operating systems.
In Cinebench I get the following:
108.82 fps Open GL OS X (10.10.2)
152.63 fps Open GL Win 8.1
That is about 40% better performance on Win 8.1.
With Unigine Heaven Benchmark at 1920x1080, quality - ultra, Tessellation - Extreme, and 4XAA.
51.1 fps Open GL OS X (10.10.2)
64.3 fps Open GL Win 8.1
70.4 fps DX11 Win 8.1
1,286 score Open GL OS X (10.10.2)
1,619 score Open GL Win 8.1
1,774 score DX11 Win 8.1
With Unigine Valley Benchmark at 1920x1080, quality - ultra, and 4XAA.
56.2 fps Open GL OS X (10.10.2)
68.6 fps Open GL Win 8.1
79.4 fps DX11 Win 8.1
2,351 score Open GL OS X (10.10.2)
2,871 score Open GL Win 8.1
3,320 score DX11 Win 8.1
Are other people that are dual booting seeing these kind of differences in graphics performance?
Thanks!
edit: I should mention that I'm running a Samsung 830 SSD for OS X and a Samsung 850 Pro SSD for Win 8.1. The SSD for Win 8.1 is a faster drive but I would not imagine this would make a big difference.
