PCI SSD card question

My girlfriend's son got caught in the rain with his MBP and didn't get it dried out soon enough. I purchased a PCI adapter(2 different cards, actually. both for his particular SSD model) for his SSD to see if we can salvage anything from it but neither OSX nor Windows show the card.

Is there a setting(s) in BIOS or UEFI I need to change so the MOBO will see this card?

Why complicate things with the PCI adaptor ?
Is there a reason why you can't just connect the SSD to your onboard SATA ?

The SSD cards they use in at least this model of MBP are proprietary. You *need* an interface card.

Are you sure you bought a compatible PCIe adapter? Apple's SSD blades use a proprietary interface - the interface is not mSATA or M.2 ACHI or NVMe.

I got two different cards, both supposed to be specific to that particular ssd card. Neither worked...
