Hi pastrychef. Would you say the Asus Maximus VIII Gene yields a better compatibility and stability than the Gigabyte Z170 SLI? My system is working but not as perfect as I would like. Sometimes, after waking up the OS slows down and stutters for 20 to 30 seconds. On another note, Are you going to switch to a new iMac o Mac Pro when they come out? I need an extremely reliable system and cannot afford having to tinker with my computer every other week.

Thanks

I can't say since I've never used a Gigabyte motherboard. But I can tell you that I don't experience slow downs or stutters.

I need to see what Apple releases before I can make a decision on what my next system will be.

Nvidia released their web drivers for Sierra 10.12.5 tonight.
https://images.nvidia.com/mac/pkg/378/WebDriver-378.05.05.15f01.pkg

I updated to Sierra 10.12.5 via App Store. The update took approx 15 minutes or so and completed smoothly. Upon reboot, the Nvidia web driver System Preference will pop up telling you that updated drivers are available. Click it and follow the on screen directions to update.

So far, everything seems to be working as well as this system ever has. Everything continues to work without any additional tweaking.

Awww! That's soooo great! I think today's gonna be my longest day at work ever...and has just started ;)

Thanks for this guide! I followed this one and the one from Stork to install Sierra on the gene. However, I can't get clover to work on the EFI partition of my M.2 boot disk.

Here's what I noticed:
When I format the disk, install macOS first and windows 10 later, pressing F8 while booting shows me "uefi os" and let's me boot to clover.

When Windows 10 is installed first, the F8 boot menu shows "windows boot manager". Even after formatting the EFI partition to FAT32 and manually installing Clover, it stays shown as "windows boot manager", but no clover and even the windows 10 boot is broken.

In other words, my hackintosh only runs with a clover usb stick :/.

At first I thought it was because my ntfs drive was disk0s3 and sierra was on disk0s5 for example. So I cloned my ntfs partition to disk0s5 and installed sierra to disk0s3, formatting the efi partition and installing clover.

Same result. The solution is simple: reformatting the drives and starting over. However, I want to keep my windows drive, because I have been using it as a daily driver. However, windows doesn't have something as simple as a time capsule that you can just restore: it restores the whole disk and all the partitions...

Any ideas what else I could try?

If you want to install both macOS and Windows on the same SSD, install Clover and macOS first.

Then, follow the guide here: Guide: MultiBooting UEFI | tonymacx86.com

I followed this guide, but basically what went wrong is that the uefi bios kept showing "windows boot manager" as the only option for the SSD.

I finally solved it using this thread:
https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...stalled-os-x-clover-uefi-simple.182919/page-3
Right Steps :
  1. Boot windows 10.
  2. Open Command Prompt [CMD] as administrator
  3. Insert Command :
    Code:
    bcdboot C:\Windows /s C: /f uefi
  4. Now Go to C drive and then open EFI folder .
  5. Copy all the contents into a usb drive [ mainly there are two folder : "Boot" & "Microsoft" ]
  6. Restart PC/Notebook , set Boot Mode to UEFI.
  7. Boot OSX/MacOS & Mount EFI Partition using Clover configurator or Using Finder-Preference.
  8. Open USB drive and go to Boot folder & Rename "bootx64.efi" to "BOOTX64-win.efi"
  9. Now open the EFI Partition , Then Open EFI folder & Copy "BOOTX64-win.efi" to BOOT Folder.
  10. Go to USB drive again & Copy Microsoft folder to EFI Folder of EFI Partition you mounted. Now you will have 4 folders inside EFI i.e. "Apple", "Boot", "Clover" & "Microsoft".
  11. Restart your MAC & choose Windows option from clover bootmenu.
FIX For Only Windows Loading :
After these steps is quite possible that your Notebook/PC is only Booting Windows Partition or drive , to fix it follow theses steps:

  1. there are now 2 "windows boot manager" entries
  2. Boot back to windows
  3. install EasyUefi
  4. remove the first "windows boot manager" entry (on the beginning of the disk)
  5. reboot
  6. the first entry is now Uefi os with clover ^^

Since upgrading to Sierra 10.12.5, I've noticed that when waking from sleep, it would not detect my monitor. I tried a number of different things that didn't help.

Finally, I found out that if I power cycle the monitor while the system is sleeping, it detects the monitor correctly and wakes normally. Of course, this is not the most ideal solution, but it's the only thing that works right now...

I'll continue to try to dig for a more elegant solution.

Edit May 18, 2017:
The problem doesn't happen when I use HDMI to HDMI to connect my monitor. So, I'm assuming it's the monitor or the DisplayPort to DisplayPort that I had been using. I've ordered a replacement cable that should arrive in a few day.

Update June 1, 2017:
I'm back from vacation and finally narrowed down my problem to the darkwake setting in Clover Configurator. Previously, I had it set to "darkwake=1". Now, I have it set to "darkwake".

Also, during my trial and error testing, I stumbled upon something interesting. We already knew that by enabling the HD 530 graphics we were able to get iBooks to work. But, now, I know how to enable Quick Sync, however, doing so will break iBooks. So, you must make a choice on whether you want to have iBooks working or Quick Sync to help rendering times on certain apps. I have only tested this with iMac17,1 system definition.

How to get iBooks working:
  1. Use MultiBeast to enable the Intel HD 530 graphics.
  2. Open your config.plist with Clover Configurator.
  3. In the ACPI section, click on List Of Patches and select "change GFX0 to IGPU".
  4. Double check the Graphics section and make sure that "0x19120000" is in the ig-platform-id.
  5. Save.
  6. Reboot and enable the HD 530 graphics in BIOS.

@pastrychef have you encountered any problems with flashing your BIOS? I spent the whole night yesterday trying to upgrade it to 2202 and it failed. First I followed the manual which says you should insert the USB stick to the port below the internal HDMI port. It didn't work at all, blue light began flashing but after 5 second it froze. Then I started digging and found a mistake in manual, it's a wrong USB port - a flashing port is located below the ethernet port. I started again (without clearing the CMOS), the light start flashing, then flashing faster and in the end it disappeard. I thought everything went smoothly...

The current situation is: the screen is completely black, I got Q-code "00" and fans run with a full speed. I read somewhere that I need to buy a new BIOS chip and replace it what I've just done but... is there any workaround? I don't want to have this problem again.

How do you guys do it? I formatted USB stick to FAT32 under Win10, renamed file (without any particular software) to M8G.cap and just copied to the stick. Then I switched off the computer and plugged the stick. Perhaps the stick mustn't be disconnected at all?

Today I will try to make a flashback with version 1902. I must say I did BIOS update after I assembled all hardware, after installation the WIN10 and after changing the BIOS settings to match the ones listed by Pastrychef.

No, I never had any problems updating the BIOS. Maybe you can try a different USB flash drive.
