pastrychef's Asus ROG Strix Z370-G Gaming (WI-FI AC) build w/ i9-9900K + AMD 6600 XT

Hello,

I tried but it did not work. I also tried every other DisplayPort on my card, it did not work either.

I updated my build to Samsung 970 EVO M.2 (4x) and EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 SC GAMING.

I did a full reinstallation to get use to the process.

Everything works as the first time, but icons on clover boot menu look weird:

Any idea?

Thanks.

Get the EFI r3.3 in post #1.

BIOS and EFi Update worked fine. Thanks again !!

Do I need to reconsider anything when install to an M2 PCIe NVME Disk instead of SATA SSD ?

No, the procedure is the same.

@pastrychef your build says Power Nap is working, did you have to do anything specific? dark wake=? wake from network on/off? any:
sudo pmset -a hibernate mode 0
sudo pmset -a standby 0
sudo pmset -a disksleep 0?
trying to get my power nap to work, and so far no luck, with it enabled my pc is waking up "fully" at random times and log shows its caused by RTC alarm.

As I have been facing the same problem since I put my build together, can you confirm which message and log file showed the RTC alarm you referred to?

In my case, I have generated the ssdt, upgraded to the latest clover v4558. Details of my build are here.

Without doing anything special from a command line perspective, the build goes to sleep which turns off the fans. Wakes are not so random as I never got the system to sleep for hours like I did on my previous builds (other hardware though but just saying I know it should work).

Overnight, it looks like the system woke up shortly after midnight and then I am not sure how to interpret what happened around 2:12am.

See messages from powermanagement logs:

Code:

The system did not have to wake up at 7:49 as only the display was off when I got to access it.

On the USB front, I have an Apple USB wired Keyboard connected to a non-powered 4-port ANKER USB3 hub. The Apple Keyboard has the logitech USB dongle on it for the MX1000 I use.
I had also a 2013 Nexus 7 tablet charging from the ANKER USB3 hub. I will disconnect the table and do further testing.
The ANKER USB3 hub is connected to HS06/SS06.

Just noticed the update of the 20th of June from Pastrychef on the first post. I will apply the same and report if there is any difference in the behaviour while asleep.

I have applied your list of kexts from EFI for AMD RX500-Vega r3.4.zip as well as leveraged the config.plisthttps://www.tonymacx86.com/attachments/efi-for-amd-rx500-vega-r3-4-zip.337173/

It does not look like I can have the audio/sound working after wake up without using CodecCommander. Without the kext, sounds works fine on first boot, I force the system to go to sleep which works, fans stops. On wake up, there is no sound at all. If I put CodecCommander it works after wake up.

The time it takes to go to sleep is 25seconds.

I will compile some traces and continue troubleshoot my random wakes and see if I still see the same error message in the logs.

Hey Pastrychef,

Is the fix for the fan issue already included in your EFI setup with the other kexts or do I need to add it after doing the whole initial setup?

Thanks!

For those of you with Vega video cards:
As I'm sure you already know, the fans on the Vega video cards run higher than they should in macOS. Fortunately, okasit revealed that we can edit the power tables and fix this. The relevant info starts around page 6 of this thread:
https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/325120-vega-frontier-edition-on-high-sierra/?page=6

I installed the Vega 56 kext made by wyhtc and it has been working great. Not only has it quieted the Vega fan when idle (it still gets very loud under load), it has also improved performance significantly for me (compare with my results on post #1).

*Note: Since the FakeSMC Sensors don't give any readings for Vega cards, we can use Terminal to monitor temps and fan speeds:
Code:
ioreg -l |grep \"PerformanceStatistics\" | cut -d '{' -f 2 | tr '|' ',' | tr -d '}' | tr ',' '\n'|grep 'Temp\|Fan'

Btw, I also replaced my old Samsung SM951 AHCI SSD with a Samsung 970 EVO NVMe SSD.

I have applied your list of kexts from EFI for AMD RX500-Vega r3.4.zip as well as leveraged the config.plist

I really don't know why you lose audio after sleep without CodecCommander. All I can say is that audio works fine without it on my end.

Hey Pastrychef,

Is the fix for the fan issue already included in your EFI setup with the other kexts or do I need to add it after doing the whole initial setup?

Thanks!

No, the Vega fan fix is not included because it's very specific to which Vega you have and I do not want to have to maintain so many versions. You will have to apply the fan fix on your own after the initial setup.

Thanks for the reply - it's kind of driving me nuts as I am trying to understand where ther difference might be ;-)

Managed to reproduce my sound problem not working after multiple wakes. Is there any good way to troubleshoot?
