but completely different config, right?

Yep, "Specials" I am using:
i7-6700t with internal graphics hd530
M.2 SSD Samsung SM961 256G
and with that iMac17,1 system definition.

Both you and I use M.2 SSD. I think there might be something wrong with it.

I have seen some posts about High Sierra and M.2
It seems M.2 is now natively supported in High Sierra.
I had a working configuration that booted from my M.2 SSD with Sierra.
The panic is new with High Sierra.

Still no idea - anyone else?
HELP NEEDED...

Have you updated Clover ? APFS.efi ? Fakesmc ? Do that first before trying to upgrade. If any of those are too old it probably won't work.

I am sure I updated all of them but can retry tonight.
Thanks for trying to help!

I checked - all up to date - and I still do not know what else I could do.

  • Please reboot and go to BIOS setup and either take images of all your BIOS options chosen for the boot or at least make a list to upload with your post.
  • Once you reach Clover Boot Manager (CBM) Screen, before you boot to install, take a Picture to upload with the cursor indicating the icon to be booted. The image should include all the icons on that screen. It will be great if you can edit the image indicating the icon names found by hovering mouse cursor in the CBM screen.
  • Once you boot the disk in verbose mode and get any screen that shows an error/crash, take the picture of that to upload
    • Upload the images.
    • Upload CLOVER folder from the booted installer as compressed file.
    • Upload BIOS screen shots or post the List your BIOS options used for the failed boot.
  • I will try to see how I can help you based on the data given.
