P9X79 Pro Guide (still a work in progress)

Hi all,

I plan to move from my GTX580 to the GTX Titan, on the same slot. Should i do something before this hardware upgrade ? I've got the same hardware and software configuration as edmoncu.

Thanks

No need i suppose. Btw, if you don't have the Titan yet, get the 780ti, it has more cuda cores and faster clocks

The 780 Ti doesn't work in 10.8.5 nor 10.9.0, as well as the newer (like v2) of the 780 cards. See SquishyTia's posts.

It's good to know. If i understand well the post, the Titan won't work either.

So I suppose GTX 780 (w/c is based on Titan and 780Ti) does not work either?

edmoncu, can i renable Hyperthreading and Virtualisation options in the BIOS ?

Thanks.

Hyperthreading is always enabled on my setup. It is safe to turn it back on.
For Virtualization, i am not sure.

In case it messes up anything, you can just disable it again from the UEFI.

OT: I noticed sluggish Finder performance. It was fixed by removing the Finder preferences and restarting Finder:

Thank you. Hyperthreading enabled again didn't make any trouble.

About the finder CPU usage, i haven't noticed anything wrong here.

It kept stalling (and not responding even after it's forced shutdown) when i tried testing its folder opening speed by opening all folders at the same time under 'Library' folder. It was a non-issue on previous osx releases only until now. Restarting Finder didn't work. Only after deleting Finder preferences it did work and the issue was not repeatable anymore.

Ok so Im following your guide because i have gotten the BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH!!! Im just wondering if I'm editing the org.chameleon.Boot.plist file correctly here is what I did. Is that right?

P.S. I'm totally new to this so please be gracious in your response.

<key>Boot Banner</key>
<string>No</string>
<key>GraphicsEnabler - Yes
<string>No</string>
<key>Instant Menu</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>IGPEnabler - No
<string>Yes</string>
<key>Kernel Flags -f cpus=1 npci=0x3000 darkwake=0
<string></string>
<key>Legacy Logo</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>UseKernelCache</key>
<string>No</string>

P.P.S. Im gunna go try it now

Edit* tried booting with that and got the little red apple with eyes instead of the apple logo on the white screen. waited a while an nothing happens, just the stupid little apple staring me down. There has got to be something really little that I am overlooking, any ideas on how to get OSX Mavericks to work? System specs are in my profile.

Hello, one thing that I saw was wrong is your placement of the edits. (there may be more, I am not a pro)
It should look something like this.

<key>Boot Banner</key>
<string>No</string>
<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>Instant Menu</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>IGPEnabler</key>
<string>No</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string> -f cpus=1 npci=0x3000 darkwake=0 </string>
<key>Legacy Logo</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>UseKernelCache</key>
<string>No</string>

All edits are done below the "key" and in between the "string." A space can be added at the beginning and end, but not needed.
