Today Apple released 10.8.5, the fifth (and final?) major update to OS X Mountain Lion. To eliminate any potential issues, we generally recommend to update any supported systems using the standalone combo installer available from Apple.com, and not the built-in Software Update.

Be sure to back up any important data, and if possible clone your hard drive before applying the update. If you have any issues post-update, boot using UniBeast.

What we know about 10.8.5 so far...
  • OS X Build 12F37
  • 12.5.0 Darwin kernel
  • Native support for Intel's 4th Generation "Haswell" CPUs
  • Native drivers for Intel HD 4600/5000 integrated graphics
  • Updated NVIDIA and AMD graphics drivers
  • If you use NVIDIA's standalone Web Drivers, see the update post here.
  • CUDA not updated yet, though NVIDIA is currently recommending the previous release (update http://www.nvidia.com/object/macosx-cuda-5.5.28-driver.html).
  • If you use customized or edited graphics kexts, it will be necessary to make the edits again using the new drivers as a base.
  • Updated audio drivers
  • You will have to reinstall AppleHDA using MultiBeast before rebooting.
  • If you use VoodooHDA, you will not need to make any modifications

Testing is now underway- this post will be updated. Good luck, and let us know how it goes! Report your results here.

I recommend the Combo update instead of the store incremental update. My procedure is to
  1. Download the latest version of MultiBeast for 10.8.5 and read the change file;
  2. Repair Permissions using the Disk Utility on the drive to be updated;*
  3. Backup your current system with Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper;
  4. If you're using the "USB 3 - Universal" (Zenith432's GenericUSBXHCI.kext), remove it from S/L/E folder**;
  5. If you've not done a fresh install recently, you should remove npci=0x3000 from the /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist file;
  6. Run the Combo Update - don't reboot yet;
  7. Run the latest MultiBeast to reload only the audio driver and any other updated kexts;
  8. Download the GenericUSBXHCI.kext and install using Kext Utility;
  9. Reboot using "UseKernelCache=No" at the Chimera screen prompt; and
  10. Repair Permissions again.*
If sleep/wake-up is not properly working, try removing "darkwake=0" from the Kernel Flags in the /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist file.

NOTICE: Hawell owners are not having success with this update. Before trying to update, backup your 10.8.4 Haswell Helper system. If the update doesn't work, try a fresh install by
  • restoring your 10.8.4 Haswell Helper installation;
  • go to the MAS and download the Install Mountain Lion app (it's now 10.8.5), using Option-Click on the Purchase menu item;
  • prepare a UniBeast USB thumb drive with the updated UniBeast v2.1; and
  • making sure your backup is current, do a fresh install.
If this doesn't work, restore your 10.8.4 Haswell Helper installation and wait for updating news. Being an early adopter is hell sometimes. One user had success with a fresh install.

* You can use the Terminal instead of Disk Utility if you feel comfortable with a UNIX command:
Code:
sudo diskutil repairPermissions /

** Zenith432's GenericUSBXHCI.kext has been reported to cause Kernel Panels on some motherboards after the update. Note: If your motherboard has Intel USB3, then you don't need the GenericUSBXCHI.ket as USB3 will be natively supported.

Can it be "slipstreamed" to 10.8.4 installation? Can't install 10.8.4 on Haswell...

Not sure if it is quite enough for a "recommended build"... Still waiting for feedbacks, since I'm kind of torn about going with the 4770K or 3770K. :/ Any suggestions?
Haswell works fine. Go 4770K.

I run the SU via the App Store, as completely forgotten that have got a Hackintosh not a Mac Pro and I remembered that when noticed the PC screen. The final result is as it should be. Everything works fine! :)
