Today Apple released 10.11.6, the sixth (and final?) major update to OS X El Capitan. Update any supported system using the built-in Software Update functionality through the Mac App Store, or by using the standalone installer available from Apple.com.

Be sure to back up any important data, and if possible clone your hard drive before applying the update. If you have any issues post-update, boot using UniBeast created USB, press spacebar, and boot using Safe Mode.

What we know about 10.11.6 so far...
  • OS X Build 15G31
  • Kernel updated to Darwin 15.6.0
  • Updated Intel, NVIDIA, and AMD graphics drivers
    • NVIDIA Alternate Graphics Drivers have been updated for 10.11.6 here.
  • This update will replace your audio drivers. If you enabled Realtek onboard audio using MultiBeast or the CloverALC110 script, no changes will be necessary.
  • Install OS X El Capitan App Updated - If you downloaded El Capitan from the App Store prior to today, and you want to have the latest version on your backup installer USB, simply log into the Mac App Store and click Download. The updated 10.11.6 Install OS X El Capitan App can be found in the Applications folder. You may then re-create your UniBeast installation USB.
Testing is now underway- this post will be updated. Good luck, and let us know how it goes! Report your results here.

Pre Update Notes:
- This update may break some of your El Capitan functions, like audio and the nVidia Web drivers. Make sure you backup first.:thumbup:

- If you're using nVidia drivers for your GeForce GTX 750, 750Ti, 960, 970, 980, 980 Ti and the Titans 'Maxwell' graphics cards, you'll need to install the nVidia 10.11.5 Web driver(s) after the 10.11.5 update. See tonymacx86's thread NVIDIA Releases Alternate Graphics Drivers for OS X 10.11.6 (346.03.15) if you have one of these Maxwell graphics cards.

- No support for GTX 1070/1080 graphics cards, yet.

Here's the step by step way to update for those who aren't using the nVidia Maxwell graphics cards. For nvidia Maxwell card users, see below
:ch: Backup your current installation using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper;:ch: Download the Software Update or Combo Update and run it to update to 10.11.6 - the updater will reboot upon completion;
:ch: Upon rebooting into El Capitan, you can:
:ch: Check to see if your audio is working (If you enabled Realtek on-board audio using MultiBeast v8.2.3 or toleda's CloverALC110 script, your audio should be OK),
:ch: (Optional) Update to the latest version of Clover,
:ch: (Optional) Check to see if your TRIM setting has survived through the update (About this MacSystem > System Report > NVMExpress or SATA/SATA Express) - if not, use the "trimforce" Terminal command (1); if you've used the "trimforce" command in 10.11.0, then it should "survive" the update, but check to make sure; and
:ch:Re-boot
:ch: (Optional for Samsung 950 M.2 NVMe SSD owners) While your HackrNVMeFamily-10_11_5.kext will get you booted into 10.11.6, you will need to run RehabMan's patcher script using the 10.11.6 argument:
Code:
cd ~/Downloads/patch-nvme-master
./patch_nvme.sh 10_11_6
:ch: Copy EFI/EFI/CLOVER/kext/10.11/HackrNVMeFamily-10_11_5.kext to the Desktop (or wherever to back it up)
:ch: Move to the Trash the EFI/EFI/CLOVER/kext/10.11/HackrNVMeFamily-10_11_5.kext
:ch: Drag and drop the new HackrNVMeFamily-10_11_6.kext to the EFI/EFI/CLOVER/kext/10.11/ folder

For Nvidia Maxwell graphic cards users (see 2nd and 3rd note above), you'll need to do the following once the Nvidia web driver is released for 10.11.6:
:ch: Backup your current installation using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper;
:ch: (Optional for Samsung 950 M.2 NVMe SSD owners) See 2nd bullet above.
:ch: Download the Software Update or Combo Update.
:ch: Download the latest Nvidia web driver for 10.11.6 (see link above).
:ch: Run either the El Capitan 10.11.6 Mac App Store Update or Combo Update - the updater will reboot upon completion;
:ch: Upon rebooting, at the Clover boot screen, click on the "gears" icon to stop the countdown to boot into El Capitan.
:ch: Arrow to or click on the 2nd line's "Boot Agrs"
:ch: Replace the "nvda_drv=1" with "nv_disable=1" (or add "nv_disable=1" if the former is not there) and type the keyboard's Enter or Return key.
:ch: Double click on the menu's Return option.
:ch: Boot into El Capitan's Desktop
:ch: Run the Nvidia web driver pkg and Reboot when its completed it's installation.

Please post help requests in the El Capitan Desktop Support Forum section (not in this thread).

Tip: Don't use the iMac15,1, iMac 17,1 and Mac Pro 4,1/5.1/6.1 System Definitions. These SysDefs have been found to cause problems. For Haswell builds, toleda recommends iMac 14,1 for HD4600 and iMac14,2 for graphics cards; MacPro6,1 is only appropriate for X99 systems. Additionally, Clover is pretty "smart" about choosing a default System Definition for your system.

1 Use the new Terminal trimforce command in the following manner:
Code:
sudo trimforce enable

Will wait a bit to see if it's stable before I update. The 11.5 update went without any problems, I hope this one will too.

Went from 10.11.5 - 10.11.6 using Software Update. All is good!

I just installed via App Store. Audio kexts survived, but not TRIM support. Other than that no issues so far.

downloading...

Updated via Appstore. Installation took 10 minutes. Audio still working, TRIM is fine, no issues detected thus far.....

updated both dell 780 with combo, ati 5450, and geforce 610, both work with no issues
