Hopefully I'm not straying too far from the mainstream.

In Windows 7 I was able to boot to a virtual disk (.vhd) directly from the Windows (mbr) boot loader. As I understand it, later Windows versions (utilizing UEFI) also allowed this, albeit with some trickery involved.

The main outcome was to allow a guest OS (of any supported platform) to utilise more of the host systems capabilities than using hypervisor software (such as Fusion).

I have seen several brief references indicating that this should be possible (at least, using OC), but nothing definitive. My searches have mainly resulted in various 'how to' guides on creating 'Install macOS [insert name here].vmdk' which, while informative, are not quite what I am seeking.

Has anyone had experience achieving the same outcome booting from OpenCore (or Clover) directly to a virtual disk (.vdi or .vmdk). If so, would you care to share the procedure that worked for you, or offer any suggestions?

Question too hard? Or, should it be moved to the Bootloaders sub forum, or similar?
