10.11.6 Nvidia Drivers broken again on 24th September by Apple Security Update Public Beta 2016-002.

I have applied the Apple update as of today and am not getting any warnings about 15f03, unlike your example above.

However I am having kernel panics in NVIDIA driver, that started spontaneously (before any driver changes) yesterday. This is what drove me to patch El Cap and try 15f03. It did not fix the problem :(

Last night I applied the old beta driver package and now my GTX 950 is working. 12 hours of heavy Lightroom use, no issues.

WebDriver-346.03.15b01.pkg

That sounds encouraging, though I have tried all 4 drivers (b01, f01, f02, f03) w/no luck so far. The one combo I have not yet tried is the security-patched El Cap with the old beta driver 15b01 -- intuitively this seems unlikely to succeed given that the security patch broke the previous NVIDIA drivers, but I have seen a couple of posts in various fora saying that rolling back to 15b01 solved the crash issue, so gonna try it (after I finish making a bootable backup disk).

[update] OK I gave it a try -- latest OSX, with the 15b01 driver from NVIDIA. Nope. Crashes in the first minute of running Heaven benchmark. I am now out of ideas. I guess maybe time to talk to the hw vendor? was really hoping to avoid an RMA :( but so far none of the fixes that have worked for others are working for me.

Are you running OSX 15G1004? abd what is your SMBIOS mac model? I have been MacPro3,1 so far but am considering trying some others, desperately seeking some combination that will work.

Running OSX 10.11.6 - 15G1104 - Genuine Mac Pro 4,1
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro4,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Memory: 32 GB
Boot ROM Version: MP41.0081.B07
SMC Version (system): 1.39f5
SMC Version (processor tray): 1.39f5

Gigabyte GTX 950 - ROM Revision: VBIOS 84.06.2f.00.bf

Suspect build number may have changed by 24 Sept BETA Apple Security Update.

Tip - Did notice that zapping PRAM did revert Nvidia Web Driver back to Apple OSX Default. But was able to reselect Nvidia Web Driver.

So I'm now on the last update OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 (15G1004), and still none of the drivers installed work which are:

  • The beta 346.03.15b01
  • 346.03.15f02.pkg, and
  • 346.03.15f03.pkg

My OSX 10.11.6 build number is the later 15G1104, suspect that is due to BETA program.

I've never gotten as far as you even seeing NVIDIA driver options in the Driver Manager.
It's like my system sees the card but that's about it.

So the security update today from Apple has given us a new build number (
15G1108), thus the Nvidia drivers don't work. No update from them yet via the control panel.

Is there a way to force the existing drivers from the previous 10.11.6 build to work with this new build?

aw damnit. I just installed the security update and it broke the web driver. When is Nvidia going to fix this?????
