NVIDIA has released alternate graphics drivers for OS X El Capitan 10.11.1 These are separate from the drivers Apple ships as standard, and should be considered experimental. These drivers have been known to solve OpenCL issues with certain applications, as well as providing better native GPU power management for certain devices.

NOTE: These drivers are currently the only method to get full acceleration for NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750, 750 Ti, 950, 960, 970, 980, 980 Ti, and TITAN X 'Maxwell' graphics cards. There are no current Macs with these cards, so support is absent natively in OS X.

If you've installed the drivers before, you may get a notification to update to the new drivers from the built in System Preferences pane.

How to Install the Web Drivers:
In order to use the alternate drivers on a CustoMac, you must first install the driver package. Also make sure to choose NVIDIA Web Driver using the standard menubar or system preference pane then reboot.

Here's a quick method to update from 10.11.0 if you have a Maxwell card. The older drivers package does not work with 10.11.1.

If you're using a NVIDIA 'Maxwell' GeForce GTX 750, 750 Ti, 950, 960, 970, 980, 980 Ti, or TITAN X graphics card:

1. Install the 10.11.1 update, and reboot.
2. At Clover boot screen click Options
3. Press Enter on Boot Args line and add nv_disable=1 boot argument, then press Escape
4. Boot into system with no graphics acceleration
5. Install the new drivers.
6. Reboot normally.

Updated without problems. Tip: when nvidia will warn you about incompatible drivers, just click check now for new version and you will start downloading new nvidia drivers. Drivers will then install automatically.

No need to download drivers beforehand.

Worked perfectly here, thank you so much!

I have some strange behavior here. After allowing it to automatically update this driver, when I boot, my system goes to a blank screen forever. However, if I hit spacebar on Clover and select to verbose boot method, I am able to use my system. I can reboot again and again, and unless I select verbose, blank screen. Verbose, works fine. It's annoying behavior, but at least I can use my system!. Any tips would be appreciated.

Having this same issue with a GTX 460. Putting -v in the conflig.plist seems to do the trick. Not much of a hassle, but weird!

dont we need to add bootflag nvda_drv=1?

I should have listened to my own advice and stopped there.

I went ahead and re-installed the driver, this time after booting with nv_disable=1. Now I cannot get the NVIDIA driver working at all. I uninstalled the driver, reinstalled the driver, and still have the same behavior as before, without or without verbose boot. Now I really am hosed. :(
