NVIDIA Releases Alternate Graphics Drivers for macOS Sierra 10.12.1 (367.15.10.15)

NVIDIA has released alternate graphics drivers for macOS Sierra 10.12.1. These are separate from the drivers Apple ships as standard, and should be considered experimental. These drivers have been known to solve OpenCL issues with certain applications, as well as providing better native GPU power management for certain devices.

NOTE: These drivers are currently the only method to get full acceleration for NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750, 750 Ti, 950, 960, 970, 980, 980 Ti, and TITAN X 'Maxwell' graphics cards. There are no current Macs with these cards, so support is absent natively in macOS.

If you've installed the drivers before, you may get a notification to update to the new drivers from the built in System Preferences pane.

How to Install the Web Drivers:
In order to use the alternate drivers on a CustoMac, you must first install the driver package.

As of macOS Sierra, nvda_drv=1 in config.plist under Boot > Arguments is no longer working to initiate drivers. Clover has been updated with a new System Parameter setting called NvidiaWeb.

There's a new method for enabling the NVIDIA Web Drivers in the latest versions of Clover. It can be turned on and off by editing /Volumes/EFI/EFI/CLOVER/config.plist to add SystemParameters/NvidiaWeb. This takes the place of nvda_drv=1 boot flag, which will not work in macOS Sierra.

1. Mount EFI Partition
2. Open /Volumes/EFI/EFI/CLOVER/config.plist with text edit, Xcode, or Plist Editor Pro
3. Edit as shown below:

Works for me, but the problems with mouse pointer chaos on the left half of a 5k screen still persist on 10.12.1 and this Nividia Driver

Surprised me it took as long as post 3 for that question...

Personally I have no idea but Nvidia would sell a lot more cards if it did...

"A lot more" maybe no ... I don't think the hackintosh community is so big ... but some more for sure!

Anyway ... this drivers are still v.367... when we will see v.368 we knot they've added Pascal support!

Well to the Hackintosh community, at least. I don't think Nvidia sees the old, expandable MacPros, pre MacPro Poubelle, as being a viable market. Baring any surprise announcements on Oct. 27, if Nvidia did come out with series 10 drivers it would be a total acknowledgement of the Hackintosh platform. Whether this would **** off Apple, who knows? It might take someone hacking the Linux drivers to make these puppies work.

It wouldn't be the first time that some UNIX flavor reutilizes the NVIDIA drivers from other UNIX flavor. It's been seen in BSD land (I believe there are -or were- NVIDIA drivers for MidnightBSD which were hacked from the FreeBSD drivers).

Anyway, people capable of doing awesome things in OS X tend to have the time too limited. Projects show a big success at the beginning, but then either they get out of time, or interest fades away. It happened to PearPC (can you imagine the point PearPC could have achieved? They even outlined a realistic plan for getting hardware accelerated OpenGL!). Similar unfinished results can be seen for all projects trying to turn the open source Darwin into an usable desktop OS (well, PureDarwin isn't dead, but development path is slow to say the least).

I'd certainly wish MacOS has a long time future, as there're no other Unices comparable out there, but it's a pain that the future of MacOS is in the hands of the currently clueless Apple.

This is saddens me. I really want to run this OS instead of Yosemite. So I guess it can take months now or perhaps never gonna be fixed. Sorry - being a bit pessimistic.

Installed by accident, hit the wrong button lol, it broke Nvidia web driver as mentioned above, disabled sip and managed to get logged in to download new drivers. Now working perfectly..
