NVIDIA Releases Alternate Graphics Drivers for macOS High Sierra 10.13.5 (387.10.10.10.35)

NVIDIA has released alternate graphics drivers for macOS High Sierra 10.13.5. These are separate from the drivers Apple ships as standard, and should be considered experimental. These drivers have been known to solve OpenCL issues with certain applications, as well as providing better native GPU power management for certain devices.

NOTE: These drivers are currently the only method to get full acceleration for GeForce GTX 1050, 1050 Ti, 1060, 1070, 1070 Ti, 1080, 1080 Ti, TITAN Pascal, and TITAN Xp 'Pascal' graphics cards and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750, 750 Ti, 950, 960, 970, 980, 980 Ti, and TITAN X 'Maxwell' graphics cards. There are no current Macs with these cards, so support is absent natively in macOS.

If you've installed the drivers before, you may get a notification to update to the new drivers from the built in System Preferences pane.

How to Install the Web Drivers:
In order to use the alternate drivers on a CustoMac, you must first install the driver package.

As of macOS Sierra, nvda_drv=1 in config.plist under Boot > Arguments is no longer working to initiate drivers. Clover has been updated with a new System Parameter setting called NvidiaWeb.

There's a new method for enabling the NVIDIA Web Drivers in the latest versions of Clover. It can be turned on and off by editing /Volumes/EFI/EFI/CLOVER/config.plist to add SystemParameters/NvidiaWeb. This takes the place of nvda_drv=1 boot flag, which will not work in macOS Sierra+.

1. Mount EFI Partition
2. Open /Volumes/EFI/EFI/CLOVER/config.plist with text edit, Xcode, or Plist Editor Pro
3. Edit as shown below:

Emulated NVRAM:
Emulated NVRAM is required for support of NVIDIA Web Drivers on many desktop systems. Use MultiBeast to install Bootloaders > Clover UEFI Boot Mode + Emulated NVRAM. This allows for menu bar switch between NVIDIA Web Drivers and OS X Default Graphics Drivers.

Driver itself is working fine. but now the driver manager seems to be broken. Whenever I go to my pref´s, I get this nice little message here:

Ideas anyone?!

Have you tried to completly reinstall the driver package?

And btw do you still experience the glitch issue from previous drivers?

Yes. tried it several times. I also tried to use an older version with the "Webdriver All Versions" app, but with no result.

In the end, it doesn't bother me that much. it´s one click after a reboot and maybe another one if i go into pref´s.
so, I'll just wait until there´s a solution or an update for this.

I really never experienced this glitch thing ever on my mac with a GTX 750Tti and the same goes with this version.

//edit:
I further experience a slightly longer boot time, which is Nvidia related, I think. At the point where the Nvidia driver comes into place and my 2nd monitor would light up, it takes a few seconds more - at least I feel like it is so.

On my own rig with a 1070Ti, I lost the ability to wake my screen from display sleep after the latest updates. In following TonyMac's directions, I updated Clover and apfs.efi and then ran the 10.13.5 update. No issues during the update and Nvidia prompted me to update my drivers once the upgrade was complete. Now every time the display sleeps, I am able to wake it with USB devices but while the computer is responsive, the display is frozen - cannot move cursor, etc. - while the computer continues to access the hard drive. So far I've rolled back Clover but the problem persists. Continuing to troubleshoot and will update here if I learn anything new.

UPDATE: Rolling back the Nvidia web driver to version 387.10.10.10.30.107 solved the problem with display freeze on wake. I've since updated Clover to the latest release so everything but the webdriver is updated and everything is back to working normally on my computer.

Strange, I don't get this problem on a fully updated system with the latest Nvidia driver. Btw the lag issues I've experienced are also gone in this version.

i just found out that it wasnt nvidias fault. it was a corrupted time machine backup i reinstalled from coincindently.

I updated, installed this Nvidia driver. But, I found out that it has artifacts. I am using it with Intel QuickSync on my Hackintosh. It was working without artifacts in older versions.

Has G-Sync been fixed with this? In previous versions, when GSync is enabled, i believe the secondary monitor freezes amongst other things. I'm afraid to turn it on again :lol:
