NVIDIA Releases Alternate Graphics Drivers for macOS High Sierra 10.13.3 (387.10.10.10.25)

I can't belive I didn't read this thread yesterday... :| I built a new Coffee Lake PC yesterday, did a clean macOS install and after installed WebDriver there was this crazy lag everywhere. I thought something is wrong with my new Clover config or it's related to some problems with 8th gen Intel processors. But no... so much time wasted last night.... damn

Apple opened a can of worms with 10.13.3. There's obviously a leak with WindowServer and nVidia drivers (even their native ones).

I think nVidia needs to talk to Apple and get their drivers fixed. I think they have major issues with each other. I don't understand why they don't just talk like grown people and get this resolved once and for all.

macOS High Sierra officially supports eGPU's now, that means you can stick in an nVidia GPU in a TB3 external box and have it work with macOS. GPU drivers should work easily with macOS and this walled garden mentality needs to open up with at least the GPUs.

I had to revert to the previous webdriver using the German utility. My Hackintosh was completely unusable with the current released driver and my GTX 1080 card. Don't underestimate when people are saying lag. We're not saying, "Eh, it seems a little slower". No, it's like ready to throw the computer out the window kind of slow.

I did some testing...
  • On my HP Elite 8300 (with GTX 745), no lag and good performance with no change to anything in my configurations.
  • On my Z370 system (with GTX 1080), horrible lag.
  • I tried going down to bare essentials for kexts, SSDT files, patches, etc. Still lag.
  • I tried clean install with bare essentials of kexts, etc. Still lag.
  • I tried OsxAptioFix2Drv-64.efi and OsxAptioFix3Drv-64.efi. No difference.
  • I tried with and without NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext and Shiki.kext. No difference.
The release notes state "This driver update is for Mac Pro 5,1 (2010), Mac Pro 4,1 (2009) and Mac Pro 3,1 (2008) users. BETA support is for iMac 14,2 / 14,3 (2013), iMac 13,1 / 13,2 (2012) and MacBook Pro 11,3 (2013), MacBook Pro 10,1 (2012), and MacBook Pro 9,1 (2012) users."
Have you tried with any of these configurations?

Currently in 10.13.3 my GTX only works well with the previous Web Driver of 13.2 (106).
If I install the current Web Driver (156), it does not work!
Reverted to the previous one... :headbang:

Code:
sudo ./webdriver.sh -cu https://images.nvidia.com/mac/pkg/378/WebDriver-378.10.10.10.25.106.pkg
sudo ./webdriver.sh -m

Black screen with 387.10.10.10.25.156
With 378.10.10.10.25.106 no problem (iMac 13,2 (2012)).
Thanks vulgo.

I used the german utility to get back to 378.10.10.10.25.104 (the web drivers for the standard Supplemental Update).

Everything is fine and back to normal.

I have no problems at all here on two machines (iMac 14.2). Both with 10.13.3 and webdriver 387.10.10.10.25.156
One with GTX 970 an the other with GTX 1060. Display is fast and reactive as it should be. No lag @ all.
Upgraded from 10.12.2.SU and manual download of the nVidia driver from the known source.

I didn't try changing system definitions. Maybe I'll try tonight...
