NVIDIA Releases Alternate Graphics Drivers for macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 (378.10.10.10.20)

To swap out an older Nvidia card (a 640) which uses the native Apple drivers, and replace it with a EVGA GeForce GTX 1050, what would be the best solution? I already have Nvidia Driver Manager installed. I would think 10.13 should boot up with minimal graphics acceleration and then I could install the proper driver with the Driver Manager.

SOLVED: just need to reboot hardware, select web driver option, and select not now. Then shutdown mac. Remove old GPU and leave in the 1050ti, reeboot and now working. Dvi and Hdmi took a while to recognise dual monitor input. Had to boot with no connected wires and then connect when mac was on, displays were then both picked up

Original Post:

Idiot here. I have an issue booting with a gtx1050ti. I have a mac pro 2009 5.1 with high Sierra10.13.1, tried downloading the latest Nvidia cuda and driver software that came out yesterday. But no luck. It keeps booting the original graphics card not the GTX, which admire both installed:( Not a hackintosh, but fustraiting. Hope ive posted this ok and any assistance welcomed

NVIDIA has released alternate graphics drivers for macOS High Sierra 10.13.1. These are separate from the drivers Apple ships as standard, and should be considered experimental. These drivers have been known to solve OpenCL issues with certain applications, as well as providing better native GPU power management for certain devices.

NOTE: These drivers are currently the only method to get full acceleration for GeForce GTX 1050, 1050 Ti, 1060, 1070, 1080, 1080 Ti, TITAN Pascal, and TITAN Xp 'Pascal' graphics cards and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750, 750 Ti, 950, 960, 970, 980, 980 Ti, and TITAN X 'Maxwell' graphics cards. There are no current Macs with these cards, so support is absent natively in macOS.

How to Install the Web Drivers:
In order to use the alternate drivers on a CustoMac, you must first install the driver package.
As of macOS Sierra, nvda_drv=1 in config.plist under Boot > Arguments is no longer working to initiate drivers. Clover has been updated with a new System Parameter setting called NvidiaWeb.

There's a new method for enabling the NVIDIA Web Drivers in the latest versions of Clover. It can be turned on and off by editing /Volumes/EFI/EFI/CLOVER/config.plist to add SystemParameters/NvidiaWeb. This takes the place of nvda_drv=1 boot flag, which will not work in macOS Sierra+.

1. Mount EFI Partition
2. Open /Volumes/EFI/EFI/CLOVER/config.plist with text edit, Xcode, or Plist Editor Pro
3. Edit as shown below:

Code (Text):
<key>SystemParameters</key>
<dict>
<key>InjectKexts</key>
<string>YES</string>
<key>InjectSystemID</key>
<true/>
<key>NvidiaWeb</key>
<true/>
</dict>

4. Remove Boot/Arguments/nvda_drv=1 if necessary
5. Save and reboot

Hey,

Anybody seeing inverted colours in 30bit mode? Using SwitchRes X to enable 10bit on my 31MU97 monitor. Running a 1050Ti

The Yellows show as Blue and the Blues as Yellows.

Colours are normal in 24bit mode.

This is a new issue with the latest drivers.

Any ideas?

Many thanks. Alternative downloader/updater/installer script attached, adds the web driver to user-approved kext policy database (no need to change SIP settings on fresh installs), removes monitor preferences that can cause dark display issues, doesn't install Nvidia preferences pane.

To install on 10.13.1

To install on 10.13.0 (before starting the 10.13.1 17B48 update installer)

Thank you so much!!!
This script did it!!
Never had a problem so far with my Nvidia 950GTX...but the 10.13.1 did not to wanted to start up!
Then at last I tried your script....Thank you so much!

Anyone Experiencing stutters and lags on chrome, while switching spaces?

I don't have those lags in Safari,Firefox Quantum

Quickly reporting that wake-from-sleep glitches on 1060s are still present, on some hardware including my own. Latest clover/macOS/web drivers. Turning off one display, then turning it back on, seems to work.
