As I can't afford to go buying randomly, this helps.

My own CustomMac has a GT440/GT630 and it seems as quick, if not more so, that my older, genuine iMac 21.5.

As Apple has now gone with the Kepler 6** series just about exclusively, it makes sense to go down the nVidia route although general wisdom is that the Radeon 7750/7770/7790 series is actually more powerful.

Incidentally I tried to do a similar comparison for sound chips, to see which were used by genuine Macs so I could source an add-on card to replace the Realtek. For example my Mac Mini uses a Cirrus Logic chip but finding a third-party sound card using the same ... doesn't happen

Help to improve build

Hey Tony:
i really aprecciate all your work and i will like ti thank you.
i have a gigabyte z68x-ud3h-b3.
and intel i53570 not the k version
nvidia geforece 8400gs
6gb 1333 ram
10-8-2
im trying to update to 10.8.4 with the package install, but after reboot i just get a black screen.
also i would like to ask you if you highly recomend the update, because i want to improve to nvdia geforce 640, i also don't know if the 4gb version wil work OOB.
also every time i make a fresh install i reboot after mutibeast install, and after chimera i don't have working usb ports.
so how can i fix that issue to get 10-8-4 or i should wait to mavericks.
