Nvidia 8400 GS 512 DDR3 Success *another method*

Status
Not open for further replies.
I got my Zotac GeForce 8400 GS, 512MB 64 Bit DDR3 (ZT-84GEM2M-HSL) with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 working. I used the Mac OS X driver linked in the initial post. It installed without a problem. I cannot, however, get it working with Lion.

Intel DH55HC mobo
4GB Kingston ram
Creative SoundBlaster X-FI GO! PRO L8 USB (VoodooHDA works poorly and Realtek doesn't work)

I eventually got it working on Lion without the driver. I just had to update the kext with correct device ID and then it works like charm. Try that out.

Would you mind giving me instructions how you did this? I'm a newbie at this. Thx

Well, I finally got this card working with Lion:

(Tested with HDMI - sound not tested)

Here's what I did:

1. Install Lion with UniBeast
2. Reboot with UniBeast
3. Run MultiBeast (including Kext Utility)
4. Reboot into Lion (without UniBeast)
5. Install nvenabler64.kext as described in the first post
6. Add device ID - 0x10c310de&0xfff0ffff - to info.plist as described in the first post (but make sure you put it in the correct place numerically - it didn't work if I put it first or last.)
7. Repair permissions (I used MultiBeast for this)
8. Reboot into Lion

I use EasyBeast, so no DSDT
10.6.8
Acpi is set to S3

I'm not running lion yet ;)
I'm intending to run 10.6.8 first.
Everything is running sweet, except for the graphic card.
Sometimes system sees it as 8400 gs, somtimes not.

edit:
Success!

Hi,

I'm trying to follow your method, but I'm not allowed to install the nvidia drivers....
I also didn't see in your list at what point you install them.
I'll have another go at it installing from scratch, but any pointers are appreciated!
