I have twice formatted a usb for an install of Yosemite and followed instructions to the letter but am not able to format the partition due to the partitioning tab being missing. I am running an intel core i5 with onboard graphics. Any ideas as I have spent hours on this and am stuck on the screen asking me to use a guid mode.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you saying the partition tab is missing from Disk Utility when you go to format the USB?

I've never seen that but the first things I would ask are:

- If you select another drive for formatting to you have a partition tab?

- Have you tried another copy of Disk Utility, e.g. one that you have on a recovery disk or other machine?

Are you selecting the actual drive in disk Utility or an existing partition of a drive? It makes a difference to your options.
