Bloomberg is reporting the following today:

Mac Updates
While the new iPad features aren’t expected until next year, Apple is planning to release some of the new Mac products as soon as October, according to the people. The updated line includes tweaked MacBook Air devices with multi-functional USB-C port technology and iMacs with an option for new graphics chips from Advanced Micro Devices Inc.

A thinner MacBook Pro with a flatter keyboard is also in the pipeline, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg News earlier this month. The standout feature is a digital function key display above the keyboard that allows for common tasks to be done more quickly for whatever program is being used, according to people familiar with the upcoming product. The feature is internally called the “Dynamic Function Row,” two of the people said, who added that Apple’s official name may differ.

LG Collaboration
In addition to the new Macs, Apple is working on a new standalone monitor to connect to its computers, according to the people. After exiting the monitor business earlier this year with the discontinuation of the 27-inch Thunderbolt display, Apple is working with LG Electronics on a new monitor with a high-resolution “5K” screen, according to one of the people. Apple currently sells an iMac with a built-in 5K panel, which includes over seven times as many pixels as standard 1080p displays. A spokesperson for LG declined to comment.

Rumors are also speculating that the new iMac will use an AMD Zen processor. This could introduce much better Mac OS support for Hackintoshes built with AMD processors.

Apple and Intel have invested heavily on integrated ThunderBolt technolgy. AMD have not, so the AMD processor rumors are only noise surrounding next years Zen release. Apple are using Intel CPU with AMD GPU hardware for the next hardware release.

Rumor has it the new 2016 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air will be powered by Kaby Lake processors.

So the original report by Bloomberg turned out to be true. LG will soon release a 5K and a 4K display fine tuned for the Macbook Pro and other Macs. Here's an additional update from a Cult of Mac article from 10/28/16:

"The days of Apple making its own stand-alone displays for the Mac Mini and Mac Pro are dead.

Apple revealed a new 5K 27-inch Thunderbolt 3 display during its “Hello Again” keynote yesterday, only instead of being made by Apple, the company partnered with LG to create the monitor. And according to people who talked to Apple at the event, there are no plans to ever make an Apple display again.

The Verge editor-in-chief Nilay Patel tweeted this afternoon that he was informed by Apple that “it’s out of the stand-alone display biz.”

Apple’s Thunderbolt Display was introduced on July 20, 2011. The company discontinued it on June 23, 2016. A rumor claimed Apple was working on a new Thunderbolt 3 display with a built-in GPU, but it was quickly shot down."

I hope it's not true but it seems that Apple will also discontinue the Cylinder Mac Pro as it does not sell very well and is just not adding any profits to Apple's bottom line. The newest 15" MBP and next, the refreshed iMac "Pro" will be the two options for Video and Audio Pros that Apple will offer.
