I had the same issue downgrading from v61. None of the options worked until i tried the "Bios Recovery" option. That worked for me!

See here : https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005532/mini-pcs.html

By the way, i used the "Power Button Menu" option, and then F4 (BIOS recovery). It worked for me on the 8i5BEH. Hope it works for you too and v64 didn't change anything about it!
Important - there is a jumper that needs to removed to do the flash downgrade. Remove the jumper, do the flash, and then put the jumper back.

I tried that. Didn't work. Like i said, "Bios Recovery" option was the only way i could do it.

You have to do both- completely remove the jumper and then do the RECOVERY method by holding in the Power button for three seconds. I did a successful flash yesterday with this method (and it was the only way I could get it to work). I was downgrading from the latest BIOS because I had bought the NUC used. Each method might be slightly different depending what version BIOS you're on, but the one I mentioned seems to be the be all end all.

Removing the jumper didn't work for me (tried it a couple of times). The F4 option (bios recovery) worked without removing the jumper. Also..a guy mentioned that you have to put the *bio file on a completely formatted fat32 stick. Quick format didn't work also. Well..at least you could do it your way, i did it mine..and MacOs runs just fine in the end ;-)

I believe it has to do with what BIOS version you're downgrading from because I spent several hours unable to flash it no matter what I tried until I removed the jumper (you had just the opposite experience). As soon as I did that it worked on the first try. My USB was formatted with FAT 16 the whole time and I renamed the bio file RECOVERY.bio, but I doubt that mattered. One other thing- I was able to re-flash from the newest BIOS to the 2nd newest and back and forth with no issues with the jumper still in place, but not back to BIOS 0056. To flash BIOS 0056 the jumper had to be removed (and of course that's the one with the special sauce).

Funny indeed how things can be different on the same machine. One way or the other..just don't upgrade your bios from 0056. My machine runs super stable, and i'm still surprised how such a small computer can run Mojave like a breeze without any problems.

Yeah, it's awesome! Very snappy. I'm so impressed I'm selling all my old gen 4 desktops and replacing them with 8th gen NUC's.

Nice!
Question - were you able to get iMessage working? I know it can be tricky and I've done it in the past on other Hackintosh's, but I haven't been able to get it done on this NUC.
