Anyone tried a Intel 10-Core Xeon E5-2690v2 3.0GHz, 25MB Cache, 8GT/Sec, 20 Threads, Socket LGA 2011
with a Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4

Just considering it, and before I purchase such a exy CPU, wanted to check here..

Thanks,
James

First step, check the GA (Gigabyte) site for the cpu compatibility list for that
specific board. I don't believe there is official support from the F4 bios revision.
If it's listed as N/A you could choose one of the six core socket 2011 I7 K or X models.
Otherwise the most cores you'll get is with the E5-2680 version one not the V2.
Also note there is no sleep or power management on the X79 motherboard CustoMac.

Whichever you choose you'll need the most recent bios from GA installed
on it for any of the Ivy Bridge cpus to work. Check with the seller to find out
if it's been updated prior to purchase. It can only be flashed with a
compatible cpu installed.

Um, thanks for the advice..

There is NO mention of the 2690 CPU at all on the Gigabyte Supported CPU page on its website..

So probably not a good option right now..

Umm.
