Hello all,

I want to buy new hardware for a new build.
The hardware I choose is:

  • Intel Core i5 8600K
  • ASRock Z370 Extreme4
  • EKL Ben Nevis Advanced Tower
  • 16GB G.Skill RipJaws 4 blue DDR4-3000 DIMM CL15 Dual Kit
  • 500GB Samsung 960 Evo M.2 2280

The question I have is about the connection between my monitor and the motherboard. It is a
S27A850D which has only the following connectors.

  • 2x DVI-D (digital & dual link)
  • 1x DisplayPort (digital)
The max. possible resolution is 2560 x 1440, which I want to use.

The Mainboard supports as stated from Asrock:

  • Supports HDMI with max. resolution up to 4K x 2K (4096x2160) @ 30Hz
  • Supports DVI-D with max. resolution up to 1920x1200 @ 60Hz
  • Supports D-Sub with max. resolution up to 1920x1200 @ 60Hz

So, what I see is that I have to use the HDMI-Port of the mainboard, then "some kind of an adapter", then DVI-D or DP at my Monitor.

Is here someone who has solved that problem, or someone with an idea what to do?

Sorry for my bad english!

Thank you for your help!

Usually, D-Sub will not work with macOS.

DVI-D should work but it does not support 4K resolutions.

HDMI works but 4K is limited to 30Hz.

DisplayPort is best when using macOS. I don't know how well the adaptors work. To save yourself trouble, I would suggest looking for a motherboard that has DisplayPort built-in.

First, thank you pastrychef for your quick answer, sorry for my late response.

For all who read this thread, with the same question, here is the solution I found for
the above mentioned problem:

I bought a HDMI to DVI cable and connected HDMI to the computer and the DVI to the monitor and
voilà, it works perfect. Ic now have a resolution of 2560x1440 with the Intel UHD 630.
