New graphics card for old build GTX 750 vs GTX 750 Ti

Hello, my current build is: DH55HC + i5 750 @ 3.36Gz + GTX 560SC and my graphics card has some issues, sometimes it freezes and I have to force restart and the preview.app issue that destroys the images.

So I want to buy a new graphics card, I was thinking about the GTX 750 or GTX 750Ti.

- GTX 750 http://www.amazon.com/Zotac-GeForce-DisplayPort-Graphics-ZT-70707-20M/dp/B00MO4MOPE (fanless to avoid fan at max speed issues) and it's around $170 where I live.

- GTX 750Ti http://www.amazon.com/PNY-GeForce-GDDR5-Graphics-VCGGTX750T2XPB/dp/B00IGHD876, it's around $220 where I live.

So it's a $50 difference, does it worth it? I'm a casual gamer, so I play games now and then, running DotA smooth on medium/high is good enough to me.

I appreciate your contribution, thanks in advance.

Either will work but they are both based on Maxwell GPU which is not natively supported in OS X - you need the nVidia web drivers to get them to work. PITA when OS X has an upgrade you have to wait for nVidia to update the drivers before you can update OS X.

For casual gaming, the 740 in the Buyer's guide would probably be sufficient for your needs and it is based on Keplar and is natively supported.

Thanks for you answer!

Does nVidia take too long to release drivers?

I mean, I have a GTX 560, which is Fermi and works natively but it crashes too much until I install nVidia Web Drivers.

I didn't know that Kepler would be a better choice, maybe a GTX 660 would be a better upgrade?

It's weird that most of the recommended cards are Maxwell based, and there are only low-range Kepler cards. Why not recommend GeForce 600 Series?

Thanks!

If you go back to http://www.tonymacx86.com/buying-ad...omac-buyers-guide-march-2014-a.html#gfx_cards you will see the 6xx series are recommended - replaced by 7xx/9xx cards now because stores quit carrying the 6xx as nVidia quit making them - so it is more a lack of availability than anything else that they are not on the recommended list anymore.

I was in your situation (i5-750 build with old GPU, too) and went with an Sapphire R9 280 Dual-X. It's way better value for money than comparable Nvidia cards (bought it for 190€ and it's faster than an GTX 960). It's supported by OS X OOB, only issue is that Chimera/Chameleon doesn't really like the newer AMD cards (I guess this is the reason why it's not a recommended card on this site). If you're using Clover (which is a good idea for other reasons, too) it'll be plug'n'play.
