Hi Everyone,

I am going to be building my first Hackintosh and was wondering if I could get some advice on the build. I have selected these specs for video editing machine (mainly FCPX) and wanted to know what you all thought:

GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-DESIGNARE Intel USB 3.1 ATX Motherboard - Black

CPU
Intel Core i7 6700K Processor (4 GHz, 4 Core, 8 Threads, 8 MB cache, LGA1151 Socket Box)

GPU
[edit 1 swapped EVGA GeForce GTX 970 for the card below]
[edit 2 swapped Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 480 8GB GDDR5 RAM PCI Expess 256 bit Graphics Card for below ]

2 x AMD Radeon R9 280X

Power Supply

Corsair CP-9020078-UK Builder Series 750W CS750M ATX/EPS Semi-Modular 80 Plus Gold Power Supply Unit

Going to connect this direct on the motherboard instead of using a PCIE adapter

WIFI

TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 N900

RAM
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 16 GB Kit (8 GB x 2) DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) DIMM 288-Pin Memory - White

CPU Cooler
Corsair CW-9060007-WW Hydro Series H60 High Performance 120mm Rad All-In-One Liquid CPU Cooler

Case
Corsair Carbide Series 400C Mid-Tower ATX Performance Computer Case - Black

Are there any bits that I should change?

Don't think there are any of the UD5-TH motherboards still available for sale, at least in North America. You can use the Gigabyte Designare model in it's place. It can do everything that the UD5-TH can. The 970 GPU will work with FCP X but the compatible AMD cards like the R9 280X or the Newer RX 480 GPU from AMD are better choices specifically for Final Cut editing. The 480 is not oob compatible like the 280X yet. That will likely improve in 2017. Other than that everything looks doable.

Thank you for the help. I have updated the list to a RX480 for now but do you think 2 x R9 290x will be better and more cost effective?

No, you don't want the 290x it would be dual R9 280X. Those work the best with FCP X. Not all brands of the RX480 will work. As I said it's not OOB compatible. Do some research before buying one.

Sorry that was a typo. I did mean dual R9 280X. Heading off to ebay to find a pair now.

Get the Sapphire brand if possible. Avoid the XFX.
