Hey MacMan & Not Shy!

I’m preparing to order the parts to build the Official CustoMac Pro X58A-UD3R-2.0 system for audio and video work using Pro Tools 9, Adobe CS5, Final Cut, Ableton Live, Acid Pro and Fruity Loops. I have made a few changes as follows:

CASE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811165105
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115211
CPU COOLER: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608018
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231358&cm_re=G.SKILL_Ripjaws_Series-_-20-231-358-_-Product

Everything else is untouched except that I’m installing 4 hard drives with Win 7 and SL on their own drive and the other two drives to record Audio & Video.

I’m going to add the following:

FIREWIRE CARD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6815150151
Bluetooth: http://www.frys.com/product/6103319
Wireless: Custom build using the tutorial guide here on the forum.

This case comes with a 750w PSU. Any foreseeable issues with stock PSU's that come with cases?

@ Not Shy!

The Server case above is lacking in the cooling department and didn't see how to
compensate for the short comings. I found another case which comes stocked with 7 fans which can be upgraded. This combination is the same price as the iStar but I will loose 1 Hard Drive in the build. I believe that the extra cooling will make a huge difference and possibly the best way to proceed.

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147155

Hot Swap Cage: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816215120&cm_re=hot_swap_cages-_-16-215-120-_-Product

Power Supply Unit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006

Is it necessary to upgrade from the stock fans?

I saw these replacements:

I am assuming you are going for a rack mount case due to the fact that you have all your other components arranged in this fashion for your studio? I have the same processor you picked. I like your ram selection. I can tell you that I just finished following that guide and my machine has been running strong since i installed! I am not using protools at the moment but I do have a DIGI 003 R+ and it works great.

I can't tell you anything about rack-mount server cases-- though like the previous poster, I'm guessing you're doing this to match the rest of your workspace.

I will say that the Noctua-- which has a GREAT reputation-- is quite large, and the ram you've chosen have sizeable fins on top. You should absolutely make sure that those two pieces Noctua and/or RAM will fit in the case without interfering with one another... or that the noctua fits the case itself.

I have the Corsair 650tx.... GREAT! I think 750 (even 650 in my case) is probably overkill. You could save some money, and have plenty of room on wattage with a 600 or 650 watt PSU.

Of course, if you have other big needs (dual, high wattage video cards, other high-draw equipment) than 750 (or higher, depending on needs) is great.

Also, video card?

As for bluetooth, I get mostly great use out of the Sabrent from Frys... but sometimes I get a very laggy Magic Mouse. It seems to happen once or twice a day.

I don't see any reason why you need to replace the stock fans....

Thanx for the information.

Concerning the RAM I found this memory with CL7. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231307&cm_re=4gb_cl7-_-20-231-307-_-Product

It definitely has lower timings. Will this 1066 (PC3 8500) CL7 model have a performance boost or work more efficiently than the 1600 (PC3 12800) RAM with CL9? If this is true I can have 16GB of RAM with the CL7 model and save $10!

Your assistance is highly appreciate, thanx in advance.

I can't say... you'll have to turn to more experienced memory people to determine if tighter timings or faster clock will make more of a difference... or any difference in the real world. IF you want that CL7 ram to run at 1600, there's a good chance you'll need to loosen the timings anyway. There's likewise a good chance you can run that 1600 ram at tighter timings if you don't run it at full speed 1600. But part of that is going to be luck.
