Hello guys,

I would like to replace my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 with ASUS Dual Radeon RX 5500 XT EVO OC 8GB (DUAL-RX5500XT-O8G-EVO).

My CPU: i7 4790 (Haswell)
My Motherboard: ASUS Micro ATX DDR3 1600 LGA 1150 Motherboard B85M-G (PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16)

Will it work?

The RX 5500 XT is natively supported as of macOS Catalina 10.15.1, so if you are running anything newer than 10.15.1 yes it will work. Although the early drivers were a bit flaky, they improved with each new release of Catalina.

You need to use the following alongside installing this Discrete GPU:
  1. Lilu.kext
  2. WhateverGreen.kext
  3. Add agdpmod=pikera boot argument to your config.plist, to prevent black screen issues
  4. Remove any Nvidia config.plist entries or helper kexts you may have installed. Your GTX 770 shouldn't have required any, but hey you never know how someone has setup their system.

Thanks for reply!

I also wonder if the hardware is compatible -- can I install RX 5500 XT into my motherboard with PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 interface?

Of course you can. The RX 5500 XT is a PCIe card which is compatible with the PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 interface of virtually any modern motherboard like your Asus B85.

@Edhawk Just to share my experience -- your instructions was really helpful, thanks again. But kexts didn't work until I copied them to /L/E (didn't work in /EFI/Clover/Kexts/Other). Also, agdpmod=pikera was critical. But now I'm happy.

OK, that isn't the conventional route, but if it works for you that is all that matters.
