There's some guys over at IM that claim Clover legacy is running El Cap. I installed El Cap on my Z97 and then cloned the drive and patched the kernel just to test. Haven't been able build a working installer. CloverUEFI does need to be r3263/r3264 with Rehabman's AptioFix for El Cap.

I got my new 1 TB Samsung 850 Pro up and running with legacy f12 BIOS, Clover, and Yosemite before trying for El Capitan. The only hitch, per the title of this thread, is that USB 3.0 isn't working properly. Had to unplug my USB 3.0 hub to get both the native App store files and Tony's Unibeast to fully boot into the OS X installer for El Cap. All was smooth after that. Waiting patiently for a USB 3.0 fix.

I, too, am looking for a solution for NEC/Renesas USB3 devices. In my case, I have a late model Probook 4530s with a USB3 slot. I had much difficulty getting it to work in Yosemite, but it did. So did my NEC express card. The latter does show up in the USB list under About this Mac and will, on occasion, present a USB drive on the desktop after a long wait (5 mins). But you can't access the files. But there seems to be a flicker of life here.

So I am one of the many with a Renesas 3.0 motherboard. Asus Maximums IV , Extreme-Z.

I was in Best Buy today and saw a Insignia USB3.0 PCIe card to try. I see USB 3.0 is now in system report and it also accurately reports what 3.0 device I plug in. Kingston 3.0 card reader.

But I can not get the memory sticks to show up in Finder. It must be communicating to get the device info but I can not get files off of a SD card.

Initial research said to insure the card has 4pin power. Done and done checked with multimeter.

I need a Hint on this last push to get 3.0 back. Thanks

That happens to me, too.

The card is recognized as USB 3.0. Your memory stick will show up eventually on Finder but it will be very slow, unusable.

Cheers!

I can now copy files back and forth. The speed is probably below USB1.1, but it the expresscard does work without tweaking. This makes me think there is a way to tweak it further with the right .kext. But I don't have that kind of expertise.

Exactly.

Below USB 1.1 speeds. For me, that's unusable.

Funny thing is that my D720201 card is recognized without any kext patching or anything. Just the card's entry on DSDT.

Cheers!

If it is any consolation, I have a Mac Pro 4.1 with a NEC/Renesas PCI card, which worked great with the LaCie USB 3 drivers and Yosemite, but El Capitan decided to ignore it.

I have an Asus P6X58D-E motherboard, with a NEC USB3.0 controller. So I guess I'm on the same boat. I can live without USB 3.0 but it'd be nice to get it working so that I can transfer photos and videos with a USB 3.0 SD card reader.
But the motherboard is quite old. Not sure if it's still worth holding on to.

Hmm, that's tempting for only $20. I have read that those new Gigabyte Z97 motherboards also have problems with USB3 on El Cap. Is that true? If so, I might as well get a USB3 card and hold on to my current rig.

The problems on Intel USB3 are solvable.
