Since the release of OSX Mountain Lion the NEC/Renesas USB 3.0 kext doesn't work anymore.
This is how to enable NEC/Renesas USB 3.0 in Mountain Lion:

    1. Download MultiBeast 4.6.1 from here:
    http://www.tonymacx86.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=34

    2. Select and install 'IOUSBFamily Rollback' and 'USB 3.0 - NEC/Renesas and Etron'

    3. Reboot

This works on my ASUS P7P55D-E PRO, and as far as I know it should work on every motherboard using the NEC/Renesas D720200 controller.

Users reported that this method works on the following motherboards:

    - Asus P7P55D-E Pro
    - Asus P8Z68 deluxe/gen3

    Enjoy!

Tested on a clean install of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

If this method works for you, please share your motherboard brand + model in this thread ;)

Yep! The new USB3.0 'solution' in the latest Multibeast will break Sleep and did not even detect my NEC based chipset. Its the Caldigit driver edited by Mlydinesh - which is the most troublesome USB3.0 kext ever. (Or so they say)

The PHXCD kext (which is used in MultiBeast v4.x) is the LaCie kext patched by Modbin (from insanely-mac.com). That kext still works great in ML as it did in Lion.

So I'm not too sure why it has been left out of v5 / replaced. I used the ML DP3 version of the IOUSBFamily.kext along with it because ML DP4 & GM had a version that won't mount drives plugged into the ports - even though they are detected. That seemed to carry through to the retail version.

    They are available here:http://www.osx86.net/view/2870-pxhcd.kext.html

Have you checked with latest Multibeast that rollback/usb3 support works plugging in drives and sd card readers AFTER boot?

I installed the NEC / renesas kext and IOUSBFamily rollback with MultiBeast 4.6.1, NOT 5.0.2. After a reboot my USB 3.0 HDD works at USB 3.0 speed ;)

Done. Just extracted required kexts from MultiBeast4.6.1 using Pacifist and installed them. Had to do this manually because via MultiBeast I got "installation failed" or smth like this. Now I have USB3 ports and Sleep working and can confirm that usb3 drivers from latest MultiBeast which I tried to install before broke the Sleep.

Just found that my Cinema Display USB Audio stopped working. In logs there is error message saying that AppleUSBAudio.kext failed to load due to incompatibility or smth like this. Had to revert to previously backed-up kexts...

No need to roll back, if you don't need for other USB on the machine.

You don't need. GA-X77 are using Intel USB3.
USB3 Intel is working OOB with ML.
