The next version of macOS is expected to be announced at Apple's online only WWDC (Worldwide Developer Conference) on June 22, 2020. If Apple sticks to the current format, it should be nicknamed after a place or region in California.

What will the next macOS be called?

10.9 Mavericks
10.10 Yosemite
10.11 El Capitan
10.12 Sierra
10.13 High Sierra
10.14 Mojave
10.15 Catalina
10.16 ??

My guess is Big Sur. It's a beautiful place right on the Pacific. Kind of stays with the Catalina theme.

If you were wondering how "Big Sur" translates from Spanish to English:

The name "Big Sur" is derived from the original Spanish-language "el sur grande", meaning "the big south", or from "el país grande del sur", "the big country of the south", referring to its location south of the Monterey Peninsula.
