This is my first Hackintosh, and I'm having some issues.
First, my hardware:
My steps:
Thanks in advance for your help!
First, my hardware:
- GA-Z77X-UD5H Rev 1.0, BIOS F8/F14
- Core i5-3750K (stock speeds, for now)
- Intel HD 4000 IGFX (for now)
- SeaSonic X650
- Samsung 830 128 GB SSD
- Seagate Barracuda 2x2 TB
- Corsair Vengeance
- Sony Optiarc DVD+/-RW
- Rosewill Internal Card Reader
- Corsair Carbide 300R
My steps:
- Assemble computer -- no difficulties there, the 300R is a great case
- Configure BIOS
- I followed the very helpful guide at http://www.tonymacx86.com/99-quick-guide-configuring-uefi-gigabyte-s-7-series-lga-1155-boards.html
- Smooth sailing
- UniBeast 1.5.3
- I followed the very helpful guide at http://www.tonymacx86.com/61-unibeast-install-os-x-mountain-lion-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html
- Smooth sailing once again -- Mountain Lion 10.8.2 installed without a hitch
- At this point, the computer is somewhat functional in Mountain Lion:
- No bootloader is installed, so I have to use my USB stick and then choose to boot from the SSD
- Self-reports as a MacPro3,1 with correct processor & RAM
- Hard drives are all recognized and functional
- Intel HD 4000 is not recognized and video playback is choppy
- Ethernet works, on both Intel and Atheros chips.
- All rear USB ports work
- Front USB ports do not work
- Menu Bar eject button controls DVD drive, but didn't try reading a disc
- Card reader works, at least for USB and MemoryStick Pro
- No audio device
- MultiBeast 5.2.0, first attempt
- I was sailing right along, continuing with the helpful guide at http://www.tonymacx86.com/61-unibeast-install-os-x-mountain-lion-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html
- When I ran MultiBeast, I chose the following options:
- User DSDT or DSDT-Free Installation
- Drivers / Audio / Without DSDT / Realtec ALC898
- Drivers / Disk / 3rd Party SATA
- Drivers / Disk / 3rd Party eSATA
- Drivers / Disk / TRIM Enabler
- Drivers / Network / Intel - Hnak's AppleIntelE1000e
- Drivers / Network / Atheros - Ahilua's ALXEthernet
- PROBLEM: Hangs on boot
- Verbose boot, the last line I see is always
Code:
macx_swapon SUCCESS
- Verbose safe boot, the last line I see is
Code:
WARNING: IOPlatformPluginUtil : getCPUIDInfo: this is an unknown CPU model 0x3a -- power management may be incomplete or unsupported
- Single user boot does get me to a command prompt
- Same problem whether I boot SSD from Chimera on USB or SSD
- Verbose boot, the last line I see is always
- MultiBeast 5.2.0, second attempt
- Ran UniBeast, reformatted SSD, Mountain Lion installed smoothly again
- Decided to be more careful and selected just one option -- User DSDT or DSDT-Free Installation
- Same problem as above.
- Update BIOS & Configure BIOS
- Off a second failure, I decided to try updating my BIOS.
- Board shipped with F8, current is F14.
- Downloaded BIOS F14 from Gigabyte, installed from USB drive using Q-Flash utility, no problems.
- Once again, configured using the helpful guide at http://www.tonymacx86.com/99-quick-guide-configuring-uefi-gigabyte-s-7-series-lga-1155-boards.html
- MultiBeast 5.2.0, third attempt
- Ran UniBeast, reformatted SSD, Mountain Lion installed smoothly again
- Once again, decided to be careful and selected just one option -- User DSDT or DSDT-Free Installation
- Same problem as above.
- MultiBeast 5.2.0, fourth attempt
- Ran UniBeast, reformatted SSD, Mountain Lion installed smoothly again
- Possible theories as to what my problem is:
- I am a newbie so I missed some really obvious setting in my BIOS.
- I am using the VGA port even though many people report that VGA doesn't work. But wouldn't the symptom of that be a garbled image, not failure to start?
- Most people with similar builds are using discrete graphics instead of the Intel HD 4000. I could be configuring that wrong.
- ...?
- Don't know what to try now, so I need advice. What should I do?
Thanks in advance for your help!
