Hi peeps,

I'm installing Mojave (18A389) on a MSI laptop
model: GV62 8RE
CPU: i7-8750H
Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 630 (Coffee Lake) and GTX 1060
SMBIOS: MacBookPro15,1
  • Botting from USB because my second HD doesn't show on BIOS which doesn't have many options
What works
  • USB 2 and 3
  • Ethernet w/ cable
  • UHD Graphics 630 (Coffee Lake) w/ framebuffer - 15360mb
  • Battery - Shows percentage
  • Memory shows 16GB
What I think is working :shifty:
  • Processor shows core i7 2.21ghz, 6 cores, L2 Cache 256 kb and L3 Cache 9 MB - Is it right?
What doesn't work :thumbdown
  • HDMI & Mini-DisplayPort
  • Audio
  • Camera
  • WiFi (I think it wont work cos its intel, right?)

ISSUE 1:
The HDMI was only detected when I installed Nvidia GTX 1060 via command line (https://github.com/Benjamin-Dobell/nvidia-update). But didn't show anything on the second screen. I've used Intel FB-Patcher v1.4.0 which patched framebuffer and also fixed IOUSBHostHIDDevice compliance violation wLength data. As shown in the image below
hdmi-nvidia.jpg
I have used FakePCIID and FakePCIID_Intel_HD_Graphics via usb on Clover but HDMI did not work. :banghead:
  1. Should I install it via Kext utility too?
  2. Have anyone made HDMI & Mini-DisplayPort work?

ISSUE 2:
The screen is black during boot, then I enter my password while its black, then after a while the screen works - It seems like the screen is warming up  - Tried to SSDT-PNFL.aml and add the following KextsToPatch:
<key>Comment</key>
<string>change F%uT%04x to F%uTxxxx in AppleBacklightInjector.kext (credit RehabMan)</string>
<key>Name</key>
<string>com.apple.driver.AppleBacklight</string>
<key>Find</key>
<data>RiV1VCUwNHgA</data>
<key>Replace</key>
<data>RiV1VHh4eHgA</data>
Then I used "sudo kextcache -i /" to apply it and also tried repair permission command.

I also tried add intelBacklight.kext via kext utilty and did not work.

  1. Any suggestions pls?

ISSUE 3:
The system panics once I try to shutdown or restart. See image below:
msi-laptop-panic.jpg

  1. Any leads?
Have been trying it for 2 weeks :banghead:, so it was time to ask for help right !!

Hope there is a legend out there that can make it happens :headbang:

Thanks for looking into it
Cheers

If your HDMI is connected directly to the Nvidia, don't expect to solve problems with it by tweaking the Intel graphics kexts/configuration.

You should check in Windows so you know for sure which graphics device is connected to the HDMI.

Hi RehabMan

I've disable the Nvidia on Windows and the second screen connected via the HDMI stopped working at all. :(
So you guessed it right!!!!

I need multiple monitors, so i guess I have 2 options:

1 - Can I make Nvidia gtx1060 work on Mojave? Don't need be 100% ;)

2 - Get a USB hub w/ a HDMI port - Would that work?

Any other suggestion?

Thanks RehabMan, you are a legend aye

Look into Nvidia web drivers. They might work.

USB video may not have the same performance as Nvidia native HDMI...

After 2 weeks of trial and error

MSI GV622 8RE - dual screen
- UHD630 1536mb - nvidia gtx1060 ONLY 256mb
- Almost there!!! Gonna try triple screen soon and also on a curved monitor 35"
Also Mojave as soon it comes out!!

How do I fix the 256mb to 6gb?

Hey man, I have exactly the same laptop as yours!
Kinda fixed everything but sleep. Did you get it to work?
Also it'd be nice if you could upload your CLOVER folder here? :D

No "Problem Reporting" files attached.
Read FAQ, "Problem Reporting" again. Carefully. Attach all requested files/output.

Use the gen_debug.sh tool mentioned in the FAQ, that way it is less likely you'll omit something.
