I'm pretty sure that this high spec Intel based laptop could be used as a Catalina Hackinotsh but check with our Laptops Forum specialists to make sure. It's for certain that this makes a great Windows 10 gaming laptop.

What you get for the money is incredible. A 17" 1080p screen and an Nvidia graphics card that is great for AAA title gaming. 512 GB NVME SSD and 16 GB of DDR4 ram. Compare those specs to the latest MacBook Air that retails for $1099 from Apple. With MSI you get 6 cores, 12 MB of cache and turbo up to 4.5 GHz. With a base model MBA you get 2 cores at 1.6 GHz and 4MB of cache. So with the MSI you're spending less cash to get 3x as much cache and a higher turbo boost. Best of all, the cooling system in the MSI is very capable and will prevent thermal throttling. The only advantage the MBA has is how portable, thin and light it is. This MSI is large and heavy and meant more as a desktop replacement. Could even be your primary Windows 10 gaming PC.

Upgrading the ram and storage to what the MSI has will cost you another $600 ! That is painfully expensive.

To get the 150 dollar rebate you would need to buy this today, 12-31-19.

Funny you post this, I have one of these from 2 years ago mine is a GP72 7re and a few days ago I popped a Nvme drive from my test system into this laptop. After a few tweeks to my z370 EFI it booted right up with keyboard and touch pad function. I got the audio to work with Voodoo. I did not test the USB ports for speed or if they were even configured properly but they were on and useable. I did not test the web cam I just kind of made it boot putted around for a few mins and shut it down. I use that laptop only when I have to do field work. Mine has a 7th gen CPU also if you watch this one you might be able get it on a sale for like $650. My room mate got one for 750 with 100 mail in, I doubt he will let me mess with his, and you have to take all the screws out on the bottom to change the drive out.

What is your opinion of the 1080p 17 inch LCD screen ? Is the pixel density high enough to make it worth buying ?

I have no issues with it.. I like that it has a Mat screen since I could be working outside when using it, and it has power enough to run Revit in the field. It sits in a back pack most of the time.
