I have a Sandy Bridge, i5-2500k OCd to 4.3 Ghz, Identifier iMac 12,1 with z68 mobo, 16 gigs and Samsung SSD. My current video card is a Galaxy GT 440 /w 1gb on Yosemite 10.10.5, which has been stable and reliable enough to do 1080p Edit/light VFX. I want to upgrade GPU (for 4K), but not the OS. Should I go for a Gigabyte/EVGA 950 or a 1050?? I've been out of touch with Clover and multibeast for a long time. Would like to install web drivers, swap cards and expect it to work properly without fidgeting with bootflags.

The missing bit of information is the version of OS X that you are currently running.

As re: replacement of my GT440, My options are GF gtx750ti /w 4Gb VRAM or Gf 960 /w 2Gb. Does FCPX/Motion and Blender/Fusion benefit more from greater VRAM or more cuda cores? The price difference in my country (India) is $24. Running 3 ssds, 2 hdds, 4 large fan gig on a 450w power supply, wouldn't like to change PSU for a new card.

The 10xx GPUs are only supported in Sierra 10.12.4. The GTX 750 and 960 may have Yosemite support. You will need to read what is supported in the Nvidia Web drivers.
